Hi all, Currently have:

Praktica DCZ 5.3

Which is a 5MP Camera.

Now this camera is great, it takes some briliant images etc, but it also has a few nigles:

1) The time it takes to take a picture is stupid, Dependant on mode, it goes from a good fraciton of a second, to a couple of seconds, and nearly ever single time what I am trying to photograph has moved!

2) It will sometimes take pictures that are just pure white light, have strange lines through them etc, Examples:

1:

2:

2.jpg

3:

3.jpg

So im just wondering

1) Is there anything I can do about the above? Not sure if there are any specials modes etc...

2) If not what is a good camera that will let me do the following:

1) Take good quality images

2) Take decent quality close up's, for example be able to take a close up picture of an eye, something my camera makes blury!

3) Take pictures quickly, I.E instead of taking a while to actualy take the image, just taking it the moment you click the button, and being able to rapidly take pictures, e.g by clicking continualy!

4) Have an adjustable shutter speed, so I can take, for example a picture of trafic at night, and get funky effects.

5) Have a decent battery life, and preferably take AA batteries so I dont have to wait hours for it to charge befor I can use it again!

6) Have a decent optical zoom

Now the above may be a challenge as the max I can spend is aprox £100....

Thanks for all your help!,

Jcb33.

Sorry, need to update that, email in trust is not used anymore, its now jasongunn99 [at] hotmail [dot] com

Sent you a reply, just wondering however if you could post some pictures you have taken with this, so I can see how good the quality is?

Also wondering, how fast do the pictures take? If you shoot at something do you get the image you see when you press the button?

Thanks :D

I can't see to access the URL you gave me :( Just says "Firefox can't find the server at death2003.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk."

*EDIT* Never mind my internet is being weird again... Very nice pictures, shows that the camera is worth the investment! Just need to get the money together and I can get one :) Are they easy to use?

And again, can you just click and capture exactly what you see at the time?

Thanks :)

Seems to me like you need a faster shutter speed for the 2 indoor photos you posted also a tripod is highly recommended for indoor shots. Unfortunately with just a autofocus for indoors you need to be up pretty close. To do most of the things in your list your looking at a SLR or DSLR but unlikely you'll get it at 100 quid. It's not a cheap hobby believe me. Save up your money and get a decent starter.
I bought a 2nd hand Canon 300D, to start with £200.00 which was a bargain at the time, I believe you can pick them up cheaper nowadays. Invest in lens for the camera, Since I got the canon I've spent approx £600.00 on lens and various other bit's and pieces. some of my pics are ----> http://www.flickr.com/photos/50387619@N00/ I'm still very much a learner but going to dedicated forums you will learn a lot more even just by reading them. POTN is Canon orientated ---> http://photography-on-the.net/forum/ Also Canon orientated ---> http://www.inspiring-photography.com/forum/index.php These guys are pretty well advanced. Whatever camera make you go for there are forums on it.

HTH a bit

another recomendation for the 6500 here (see flickr page in sig for examples).

jcb33...it'll take what you see, but for fast moving objects you'll need a fast shutter speed to avoid blurring your subject. but that's the same for any camera.

I think you just sold me on that camera, some of the pics it can take (well that you took with it) are amazing :)

Is it a SLR/DSLR Thing? Also whats the max size card it takes? Thanks!

Thanks JCB33 :)

It's not quite a DSLR. It's a bridge camera so it's one step down from a DSLR. Although most reviews of the 6500 say it can produce images of the quality of an entry level DSLR.

Hi all, been considering hard, but need a bit more advice realy.

I realy love my photography, though so far have just used my sort of everyday camera, I have got some nice shots, but im still new to the world realy.

How much is it worth investing in your first decent quality camera?

Will the s6500fd be as good as any for around the £150 price range?

Is there any good tips you can give me for going ahead with this.

Also a quick question on the 6500, whats the max memory it can take? Was thinking of getting a 8gb to go with it as I can easily take 600 images in a day!

However much you feel is worth it.

I went from a 2MP Kodak compact that cost me about £150 many many years back straight to an £850 DSLR :p

Yup, again I have an S5600 and have seen them for just under £100
Also, fuji do a refurb section on their website...google it, you may get yourself a bargain!

;)

So which would be better the S5600, or the s6500fd?

Also what is the max memory both can take? Realy wanna stick at least 4gb in the camera if possible!

I just bought the S5700, which I believe is the newer version of the S5600. Has only just come out, so you can get some pretty good deals on it. Its also a fair bit smaller that the 5600 and loads smaller than the 6500 which is handy for portability.

It also takes some great pictures, especially for the price (around £160).
