So you all know vaguely what camping is, but I wonder what you all classify camping as, people yell at me pretty routinely for "camping" when I was merely defending and objective or being "tactical", I wonder what are your thoughts on what is or is not camping.

These examples are from MW2:

Playing TDM, whole team are friends and communicating, holding the house on estate and letting the enemy come to us, killing anyone that comes near. Camping or team tactics?

Playing S&D with randoms, I stay near one of the bomb sites to watch it only to hear someone say "Vantam why were ya campin", thought that defending a bomb site was tactical...

Sometimes I get the impression that people think that you have to run around the map never stopping in one place just to avoid being a camper.

I see no problem with what you were doing or the team on TDM. Camping for me is in FFA when you stay in one place and do not move, and when killed you either return to said spot or find another position to just stay in until you are killed again.

Sadly people online (probably n00bs) seem to confuse camping and tactics these days.

Depend what gun you are using really, e.g. say if i saw you with a m16 or any other burst fire gun by the box i would call you a camper.

Most people don't seem to use any tactics at all on TDM.

op all that is tactical. I too have been called a camper on MW2.

Depends on your take really, my gf's brother calls me a camper for playing a sniper, if I have a sniper rifle, I'll move from cover to cover, trying to keep my head down, basically playing the role I have chosen, its when you have some guy with an AR in a corner of a room sitting there ALL round, running back after deaths etc.. thats annoying and camping..

imho ;)

Camping is just staying in the same spot....if you are deffending or not....I'll say to my clan mates.....i'm camping site A!

=] Camping is part of a game! People should accept it :)

I do it when its needed

I think the maps on MW2 have a huge part to play...I always play with 3/4 other in a party on TBM (because if you play yourself you always get put against other clans and get mauled)...anyway, maps like Skidrow, you HAVE to keep the the back of the map occupied, and just camp it up. its sad to say but if u dont, the other team will and so its game over.

Its the same in terminal, up the back at the securtiy scanners there is only 3 ways the other team can attack so its like shooting fish in a barrel.

It is a form of camping, but its been forced on us.

I class camping as sitting in the same spot taking potshots at what goes past. People dont seem to realise that if you play as a sniper you cant run and gun like everyone else, so you will have to shoot from a distance. But dont sit there the whole match.

Also people on the objective based games such as s&d or domo who dont even attempt to complete the mission, they arent campers, just tools :)

Skyfall you are doing nothing wrong, ignore the "OMG CAPTAIN CAMPERZ!!11\" crew

Devils advocate mode on ;) Whats tactical or strategic about 'holding' the house in estate on TDM? It would be a pretty dull game if the other side decided to 'hold' the waterfall and you both just waited for each other...

Where there's an objective yeh sure I get the tactic but estate in TDM doesn't have any you're just supposed to kill the other team more than they kill you and sometimes that ought to mean going looking for them or venturing outwith your safe haven...

My 2p

People always like to complain about something when they get shot. Its usually the people that run around like t!ts and some how feel we should all agree to run around like t!ts to make the game fair. When I camp I hold an area but I dont like to lie in one spot usually I sort of patrol (if I felt I'd get better shots off though I'd be down in the dirt for sure). People still call it camping even though I'm standing up and on the move.....its like some new form of walking camping.

The only time I tend to "camp" in one spot is when I'm playing as a sniper and feel I'm pretty well protected and have a good line of sight to where the enemies are. I personally don't see anything wrong it, especially when you're a sniper as you don't really have the close range firepower to run around the map like an idiot.

It's part of the game, don't have a problem with it unless you repeatedly return to the same place after being killed...

But even then I'm not that fussed, once you get killed by a camper a couple of times you can just chuck a grenade their direction and they soon get the message.

Same thing with spawn camping (in MW1), get moaned at for over running their spawn points and it takes a while for the sides to switch... Happens on Crash and Crossfire a lot. It's basically the poorer teams fault for not moving out...

nothing wrong with camping, it's a legitimate strategy. Imagine if this happened in real life

"stop defending that building! You have to run round constantly or it's cheating!"

I think it depends on the game mode as to whether or not people should camp.
In S&D or demolition it's ok if you are guarding the bit they need to blow up.After all,the whole point is to stop them blowing it up!
Games like DOM you shouldn't camp at all, unless your team holds all the spots.
I rarely camp simply because I get bored staying in one place hoping somebody will walk past.

Exactly.
In TDM it's Every player on the servers responsibility to Make it a Good FUN Game & laying prone over looking a choke point is no fun for anybody even the Nub that is racking the kills up.

On a mode like Cap the Flag or S&D it is Completely different & Tactics come in to play, Then it's not camping it's playing Properly. :)

That's definitely Tactics :)
As mentioned it is down to the game mode you are playing whether something can be classed as camping or not. Defending something then I don't think it can be classed as camping.

I thought it meant to cover spawn points, killing peeps before they have a chance to react or contribute to the game?
