Anyone know of some known places to buy tents and camping gear? I need a decent tent, thats not overly expensive...ive seen a 2 man tent for £480

TIA

Try going into town and looking for small shops that specialize in that kind of thing, i got a really nice 2 man tent for 50quid reduced from 120

My Tent came from Tescos :) I've never had a nicer one so dont know the difference (lol) :) But nothing's broken yet! I got a 3-Man tent, 2 sleeping bags, 2 ground mats and a carrying bag for £40 iirc. Have used it 4 times and its fine, a friend even remarked on the quality.

Sounds like some good kit you have there. My local tesco has loads of outdoor stuff at the mo, and seeing as I've been invited to a camping trip I might have a look at what they have.

I suspect it's pretty terrible quality compared to what you'd get from Blacks etc, but my point was that this does fine and if I never try a nicer one, I'll never know! Ignorance is bliss as they say, and this literally was a quarter of the cost of 'proper' gear.

Hello im new, just thought id say Sainsburys has the same deal as the tescos one, at the same price too. Ive been lurking here long enough and thought it was time i posted.

one of the lads i work with was telling me of a sale going on somewhere, 4 man tent, 4 sleeping bags and a lantern for £149. Ill ask him tomorrow where it was and post it, they will probably do smaller deals too!

You can get the bees knees kit in various places or you can do a en-mass super cheap job in tescos (very basic 1 season summer stuff).

How many seasons tent are you after?
What camping kit are you after?

Blacks is the place to go for camping gear, I should know, I work there after all! It's a great place, and today, my boss gave me a box of Budweiser for being worker of the week! :)

Fair do's that Blacks is quite expensive, but believe me, it's the best quality around.

Fan boys,

Blacks imo is ok for somethings but not for everything.

Google Field and Trek, there online site gives you an idea of price of equipment, somethnigs are cheap some aren't.

Best advice shop around and do some research, outdoorsmagic (again google for link) give reviews but don't post on there as your get a barrage of small business trying to push items onto you.

As said it completely depends on how serious and when you'll be camping.

The stuff from tesco and JJB (;)) is great for the odd trip during summer. But I wouldn't fancy it in October/November :o

EDIT - Oh and if you want a 2 man tent, buy a 3 man. If want a 3 man tent, buy a 4 man etc etc ;)

I would highly recommend venture sport. I am told they will price match any other online shop on 2006 range of tents. Also with shops in Norwich, Watford and now Kingston you can pay then a visit.

They also have a few other sister websites like Gearzone.

The good thing with Blacks is, if you're really interested and want to see the tent up, the staff will clear an area and put it up for you to test out. If you need sleeping bags and roll mats/air bed(s) then they'll put those in too so you can really see what it's like before you buy it. We really are a good store! :D

Blacks do some good quality reasonably priced tents, for general purpose

and extreme purposes, we have some serious stuff for those who like sub-zero conditions too. I was talking to this guy (Mr Brown), he's always been really active and he's been in the mountains in Norway in -20 degrees. He loves our store, it's in Romford if anyone wants to visit! :)
