Hi all,

Looking for recommendations for a camping light or two to stick in the tent in the evenings, preferably one that can run off battery and be recharged, or one that lasts blooming long on batteries.

And maybe some head torches that are half decent

Oh, I also have a go outdoors card if it helps

All of this needs to not break the bank as well :p

Alpkit gamma head torches are pretty great , though the #3 is starting to get a bit pricey at £24: reckon I paid about £15 for my #1 four or five years ago.

For camping I just use a variety of cheap led torches: lots of light even with budget ones, and battery life also fine. But I have young kids so we tend to go to bed quite early when in a tent

The nitecore LA10 is a good shout but £20 or so. Can get lanterns much cheaper but it ticks my boxes as strong light output, rechargeable battery and compact.
Could just get a cheap one that looks like a light bulb and hangs. £5 or so from GO probably.
Also could just hang a head torch up if it has some sort of light diffuser on it. My Petzl head torch has one that slides across to convert from a spot beam to a flood.

There are pop up ones on Amazon etc (they twist and pop apart by a spring) but the build quality is very lacking. Had 2 of them and run on 3 AA batteries.

Maybe best to put this thread in the hiking/walking thread?

Ooh yeah will find the thread later.

Thank you for the suggestions. Think I'll end up just buying something that recharges and has high lumens and see what happens

LED Lenser Torches have excellent batter life when using a decent battery. Best batteries ive used over the last 5 years are Duracell industrial (previously branded Procell) However they are pricey but superb build quality

I've tried a variety of lights over the years and the best I've found was one made by Lanktoo on the rainforest.
I've got the 8800mAh version but there's also a smaller 6400mAh version.

You'll find it easily enough by searching for the name.

This is it on full brightness in Devon last year...

I've found the Goal Zero Luna (careful if buying them as some places seem to have some jokers listing them at like £100-400 when the proper price is like £8-10) useful for camping, etc. though not as a main light. Would be better if it had an on/off switch on it (the cheap clones that do aren't that great).

Stick them into a USB power source and its a nice, fairly low power draw, light that is useful for reading, etc. and quite restful on the eyes.

Goal Zero produce some pretty cool stuff for camping but I can't recommend any of the other stuff as it is hideously overpriced even for what it is.

Got the larger light for camping, works like a charm and the battery lasts absolutely ages (still some juice on its first charge)

I would recommend it to anyone :)
