Can a 60hz monitor display more than 60fps

There are also disadvantages to 120hz monitors, they can appear washed out, less vivid and colour accuracy is not as good as say an IPS panel at 60Hz.

This is pretty much true for TN v IPS regardless of the refresh rate.

One of the best (once calibrated) 6bit TN panels for deep colors is infact the Samsung 2233rz (120Hz) - really missing that panel at the moment as this BenQ XL2420T just isn't a patch on it image quality wise but couldn't go back to the lower resolution now.

Seriously can't wait til Samsung do a new line of 120Hz panels without the issues plaguing their current ones as none of the current alternatives I'm that happy with and the Samsungs look great (as far as TN goes) but I can't be dealing with the displayport issues, etc.

I have a Dell U2711 as my main display and I couldn't bear to take a drop from 1440p with IPS colour depth. Whilst I do play games on it, I also use it for Photoshop and the colour accuracy is quite valuable.
With a few monitors you can overclock their refresh rates a bit, but not double them and I'm not sure what overclocking the refresh rate would do to the colour accuracy.

I know exactly what you mean, but at the same time that is a HUGE generalisation you're making right there...

Note the word CAN, I didn't say they all exhibit those properties, nor to the same extent, but I am yet to see a TN panel at 120Hz match the colour rendition of an IPS. Maybe Sony or Samsung will come up with 120+Hz OLED that can do it.

I also bought a 40 inch Samsung led tv with a refresh rate of 200hz. I Have it plugged into my pc but cant seem to get the refresh rate above 60hz on the tv either. Is this not possible?

I'm with you there. All of Samsung's 120Hz monitors (particularly the new glossy ones, for me) really showcased what TN panels are capable of. People looking at the image on some of these new 120Hz+ displays and simply saying 'oh, it looks washed out because it's a TN' are probably not aware that the issue runs deeper than that. I am really hoping Samsung can bring us something special in the not too distant future. I'd be particularly happy if, like BenQ and ASUS have done (and some others), they appreciate that these refresh rates are really appreciated by gamers in 2D, not just something to facilitate 3D technologies.

@DaN

It's only a 60Hz TV that uses 'frame interpolation' technology. It can only actually output 60 'real frames', the rest are intermediate made up frames. This contrasts with 120Hz monitors that will actually output 120 real frames out of the box.

Yeah, it doesn't work on every model (and possibly not on every revision/batch of the same model, either). But the shared experiences on that page indicate that it indeed is possible.

Didn't really put my point as clearly as I was meaning - I've always found that the Samsungs don't have any glaring issues when it comes to image quality, they might not be as good as IPS panels but theres generally nothing that outright objectionable, any of the BenQs, Asus, etc. that I've tried while often calibrating quite well always seem to have atleast one aspect that just glaringly bad i.e. on some you can get the colors reasonably pleasing but the blacks look washed out and so on or like my XL2420T where you have to make a compromise somewhere between 7000+K color temps and a horrid blue hue or very "heavy" looking colors with gamma 4/5.
