Can a microwave interfere with ir remote control

Erm thought just occurs to me.

You have tried replacing the battery in the remote?
If it's weak it may not be strong enough for the conditions.
 
Don't know if it helps but when my microwave is on it can sometimes interupt the wifi signal in the kitchen (but it's pretty weak in that room anyway).

Microwave ovens, 2.4 GHz WiFi, Bluetooth, and very old cordless phones all share roughly the same frequency.

Not the same as the IR used by this remote though. That's up in the THz range.
 
Turn the microwave off and if the issue is still ongoing its not the microwave.

Might be worthwhile swapping for a new microwave if its causing interfence on wifi etc. Perhaps the shielding in the microwave isn't working as it should?
 
Never heard of IR being affected by Microwave ovens before. The difference in frequencies is huge, several orders of magnitude difference.

Maybe the microwave lamp is run by PWM at 38khz or a resonant frequency of 38kHz and pushing some IR. Or the fan motor is somehow causing the bulb to resonate. Bit of a stretch though.
 
Tried repeating the experiment with the lights off/at night?

It's probably either cheap components or another source if light is saturating the receiver. The sun, spot lights, flouresent tubes, hell ... Energy savers can affect the ir ability.

Can also check how well the remote is transmitting. Use a camera and hold the remote facing the lense and push/hold one of the remotes buttons, the diode should be nice an bright with clear cuts in transmission.... Like morse code.... While looking through the camera :)

Rule things out by trying the 'microwave/radio next to each other combination' in different locations.

Combine microwave with radio in bedroom for example.

I've taken the radio far far away into the lounge and it seems to be behaving in here.

ive used the remote to setup presets and what not and tbh i still have no idea why its doing this.

Is there something i can put over the receiver to reduce the "shine" factor that might be the issue.
