Can a new router make a difference?

can a router upgrade make a difference in connectivity speed for online games/ downloads? I only have a 60mb package for the t'internet and at times it can be slow and others it can be fast.

will a better router make any difference or would I be better off getting more bandwidth?

current router is virgin media super hub and I have a wired connection.

Depends how gimped the one provided is, I know with the BT HomeHubs, port forwarding basically doesn't work.

I would say it pretty gimped, sometimes after turning the wireless connectivity on/off for when friends or family need it, it stops working even if it is on. then it requires a reset or to be turned off for a minute.
