Can a PS3 use a lightgun?

KNiVES said:
That's irrelevant. It's not a fact that you cannot use lightguns on any HDTVs. CRT HDTVs can operate with them, which nulls your comment that it's a blanket incompatibility. The smilie I posted obviously implied it was a tongue-in-cheek post, but clearly you want to take this a step further.
I never said a lightgun wont run on a CRT HDTV.

My original reply to your nitpicking still stands:

Yes, but I was relying on the fact that when you say HDTV, it is usually taken as meaning LCD/Plasma.
Your whole point lies with a technicality that nobody is arguing against. Whatever you may think, Plasma/LCD's are so synonymous with HDTV that they are now virtually the same thing.

I know we'll always be able to rely on some people to make that unnecessary correction though. ;)

So you just read the first post then.

I've explained what I meant by HDTV, thought it was pretty clear as well. Obviously not.

Enough already with the HDTV = High Definition TV.

What an utterly pathetic and pointless thread derailment.

Straying back to the topic, the Guncon 3 looks potentially awesome. Given that it should have direct line-of-sight aiming, and two analogue sticks, it could potentially be the best way to control an FPS ever. I'm pretty intrigued to see how well the "free roam" mode they're including in Time Crisis 4 will work as testament to this.

You pedants are pathetic, Someone answers a question. The question was obviously pointed at the norm, Which is LCD and Plasma HDTVs. But noooo, You have to try and be needlessly smartassed

Don't start crying just because you got corrected, people. Jeez. :p

Back on topic: I would think the lightgun works on liquid crystal displays in a similair manner to the sensors used with the Wii controls. Although those weren't too accurate :s

I didn't think the wii had to have sensors attached to the screen?

The "sensor" for the Wii remote is nothing more than a couple of infrared LEDs that the remote picks up on and transmits back to the main console. It uses them for rough triangulation, and since the size of your screen is never taken in to account, it's never precisely where you point it at the screen. That said, it really doesn't make much difference since you aim from the hip with it anyway. It doesn't need it for every game since not every game requires you to specifically be pointing the remote at the screen. Any of Wii Sports, for instance.

I believe the Guncon 3 system involves placing more than one sensor (presumably four) at the sides of your TV screen, so that it can work out the exact size of your screen, and thus map where you aim for exactly.

EDIT: Also, only Japan gets the black model. Everyone else gets nasty nasty orange.

How does a lightgun actually work?
Sort of like a digital camera.
It takes a "picture" of the screen and sends the data to the console, where the point of the bullet's impact is then calculated.
