So ive been getting some system crashes but its been 10 days without a crash since i disconnected my wired USB xbox controller so im pretty confident that was the issue.

I plugged it back in this morning and the system refused to boot, upon disconnecting it boots up fine.

Can a usb device be so troublesome as to prevent a system even booting?

Now the issue seems to be how if ever can i use this yoke, ive been using updated drivers, even installed xbox accessories app as i read it as a suggestion somewhere but as of yet this device is proving very troublesome and close to getting binned.

Ive also been using Device Cleanup app again another recommendation but as of yet hasnt fixed the issue.

The controller in question Turtle Beach Recon which is actually a very solid yoke to use.

Yep, entirely possible. Either electrically, or firmware.

Try putting a powered hub between your PC and the device to eliminate the first (monitor maybe?).

Have you checked for a firmware update using the Xbox Accessories app? Sounds like the most logical place to start.

You can also check and play around with USB initialisation settings in the UEFI setup.

Well i dont see an update firmware option in xbox accessories its showing firmware version as 1.3.101.1261 , i assumed this was latest since its not giving option to update ?

messing about with UEFI in bios did come to mind but i dont want to mess anything up :)

I think it's worth checking a few things, which have already been mentioned but I would check:
  • BIOS upgrade for motherboard
  • xbox controller drivers (but you mentioned you've done this already)
  • motherboard chipset/usb drivers for the motherboard
The only other thing I could suggest would be to disconnect anything else but essential devices to see if there is any strange conflict happening with any other USB device.

I should have said ive already updated bios a few months back plus chipset drivers.

Just to clarify: when you say refuses to boot, do you mean it fails to POST entirely, fails during POST, or it fails to boot into the OS?
