Can a wii user play against a wii u user in wii mode?

Hi all,

My friend has a wii, and I have just purchased a wii u. Can we play mario kart online if I put the wii u in wii mode?

Doubt it, don't think anyone would even attempt as MK8 is out next week.

One already has, but you need the homebrew channel installed to be able to do so (along with some changes in the wi-fi connection settings).
