Hello,

Really looking forward to some answers from all u guys..

I have an AMD Phenom BE555 (unlocked all cores) stock multipler and voltage, board is a gigabyte 880gm....playing supreme commander and machine switches off, nothing happening when pressing/pushing power button...wait to see if it all needs to cool down...nothing....unplug the psu and trigger the cmos reset...unplug psu cord...fans spin briefly...replug psu and press power button and all starts again..bios asks whether i want to keep settings or enter setup...all then starts normally....what is happening....are my temps too much...faulty bios......any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Craig

+1 checking the PSU, do you have a spare one handy?

Also, you say you have unlocked all cores on your Phenom II X2, but are running at stock voltage. Have your thoroughly stress tested it to ensure this configuration is stable (using a stress tester like Intel Burn Test or Prime95)?

Also, have you checked the graphics card is stable and not too hot - you can test this using furmark (furmark puts a GPU under way more stress than any game - so if it stable in this for even 5 mins then you can be pretty happy the GPU is OK).

If you want to check your temperatures while using your PC, try coretemp for the CPU, and you can test a lot of other system temps with HW monitor.

Prime95

Thanks for the responses..

I ran the prime95 program and my computer switched off within about a minute of the test beginning, powered on again but all fans spinning and no post/beeps etc..

Shorted the CMOS pins and restarted again normally, although had to change all of the bios settings again (as defaults loaded)..btw...psu us a coolermaster 600w (changed recently)..motherboard Gigabyte 880gm (new)..could it be the unlocked cores throwing this out....have my doubts with the motherboard.....any help would be much appreciated.

Check what temperatures your CPU reach with prime, cmndr recommended a few good programs to check with.
Try locking back the unlocked cores, and run prime for about an hour.

Not sure what temps are running as test does not run long enough, what I can't understand is that I played Supcom for 2 hours last night 8 player (81*81 map) and it was only when i zoomed into an enemy base that the system folded...I am using the stock cooler and havent upped the volts (an wouldnt without another cpu fan), could this be heat...if not then i suppose the other cores might be corrupted...any further ideas? (btw ran prime with just the 2 cores and no issues).

whilst on default settings, a stock cooler should JUST about be able to cope with an unlocked phenom. Probably best to slap some aftermarket cooling on there, because phenoms dont really like heat.

Ok, well if you can't run a stress test application for at least 6 hours then your system is by definition not stable.

What voltage does it say for CPU voltage in CPUz? If you are running at X2 stock voltage, but running an X4 then bumping up the volts slowly untill it is fully stable would be my first suggestion - just ensure the temps don't go to near 70.

Has to be the unlocked cores. Hopefully a bump up in voltage can stabilise them, but you need to get a decent cooler on first.
