i seen this in PC Format advertised, for £599 looks like a good deal especialy with the new AMD X4 940 Black Edition.

i havn't ever built a computer fully from the ground up, only hardware upgrades and slight overclocking.

just wanted to know if anyone was able to build this computer equivalent or better for the same price including all cables needed

for the extra £50 you're getting a 1GB 4870 instead of a 512MB 4850 and a decent brand psu too (never heard of strada) also the RAM is faster at 1066Mhz

and all the cables required will either be bundled with the motherboard (for the internal cables) or the PSU (power cables)

The 4850 is 1 gb.Depends what Resolution it is to be used with.I wouldnt upgrade to a 4870 unless i was getting a new huge gaming monitor. But a bit of future proofing :)Never heard of strada either

okay, brilliant, any money i can save will go towards better gear, i.e 1TB hard drive.

with the Phenom 2 X4 940 being triple channel, wouldnt 3x2gb sticks or RAM be better?

i thought the 940 can go in to a AM3 board? with triple channel memory?

The 940 can't go in an AM3 Board as it does not have a DDR3 memory controller.

No AMD CPUs can run in triple channle, only the intel i7s use this.

For DDR3 Support you need an AM3 CPU which have both the DDR2 & DDR3 memory controllers.

Dont know if you had you specifically wanted to go AMD but i'd opt for this if i were spending the money. Would also be swapping the quad for a dual if gaming is the main use for the pc.

only reason i started this thread, was due to the X2 940, just read that instead of blowing £240 on the i7 people should opt for the new 940, then saw the advert in PC Format for the £599 spec and thought it was good.

the pc wouldnt be specificaly gaming, if games were on it tho, it would be WoW, CS:S and perhaps some of the new games like Crysis and FEAR 2, but i dont use PC's much for Video or Image editing, only converting AVI to DVD and then burning.
