can anyone do better?

in that case there's no need for I7 when your budget is only 600. you could build a much more compete system for 600 by going for a core2 and spending the whats left over on better components else where.

sory yeah i wasnt after building a i7 machine on a low budget :D

with all the new Core 2's and Quads i get lost with the numbers, i have to rely on Magazines to tell me whats what.

would a decent Core 2 provide me with ample power for everyday tasks aswell as better gaming than a quad, id only have a quad if i was doing lots of video editing which i dont do.

think a 4850 would be even too much for a 19" monitor:D

by all means a Phenom 2 X3 set up would be worth it aswell:D

Personally, I'd ditch a quad core in favour of the triple core PII 720 (clocks like a bitch). No way should you spend over £80 on a AM2+ motherboard (you can pick up a decent cheapy one for £50). Use those savings to spend on a 64GB Sammy SSD.
