I've just realised that when it comes to computer games I just can't help but be a big softie.
I've always tended to play good characters in rpgs or games that give a chance to do 'bad' things but hadn't thought much of it. Recently though I've been trying to play some evil characters to experience a bit more of some games, notably Skyrim, and I just can't do it!
I start with the worst of intentions, I'm going to be a thieving, backstabbing murderer, but before I realise it I've fallen for some sob story and I'm hunting for some old womans lost heirloom and not accepting any payment as she's too poor  I've tried in several games now and it's always ends up the same.
Am I the only the like this or are there other suckers out there with the same soft streak?

No. Can't be bothered with sob stories anymore, grow a backbone ffs.

So Sauron has taken your husband from you, grow a pair and take on the orcish horde.

Skyrim sucks there's certain npcs you can't kill :( I joined a gang ended up as leader then murdered everyone that I could :) then wet on a killing spree in whiterun wiping out everyone but the 4 or 5 npcs that you can't kill
Get it sorted devs I want to murder everyone and everything

Seriously if someone has a sob story I cba doing their quest for them, its like they're totally pathetic so clearly their reward will be totally pathetic too.

Sometimes, But once i do something bad then i cant stop! Though after all this i just sit and think

What have i done? and i physco....am i a maniac!? Will i do this in the future? Is this the True SuperTron!?

You should try the old republic. The nearest I have came to a good deed was.......Actually I have done stuff in that game that would make Stalin balk?

Well at least I'm not the only one but I do seem to be in the minority. I have just started playing SWTOR actually and did manage to force myself to flush the engineering crew of the Essesle into space with my smuggler. Other than that he's been pretty saintly though, maybe I should start a Sith just to get my evil juices flowing :)

Depends on the game really. When faced with choices relating to morality in something like an rpg (Fallout and Mass Effect come to mind) it usually benefits the story and rewards to be a goody-two-shoes. In dicking about games like Just Cause I can't but help grappling hook some poor passer by to an explosive barrel which the promptly gets shot as you watch them launch into orbit screaming all the way.

I always play the "good guy" seems to be more rewards and games tend offer more gameplay that way.

For instance if I wanted something from some character and they told me I had to do a task for it or the game gave me an option to just kill them I would always do the task because it is likely I would see content that I would otherwise miss.

Other than that, I like playing the hero :p Being evil is too easy, just kill everything and take everything. Maybe games are just generally badly designed when playing the bad guy.

Edit: Oh and I have tried evil persona play throughs and I always got bored. Last example was skyrim, I just did what I wanted to who I wanted and it just felt boring. Reverted my save back and carried on as good.

I think I'm quite rare in that I play RPGs in a schizophrenic fashion, I'll happily rob, kill or lie to people to gain more loot, but equally I'll also help little old ladies cross the road. For example int he KOTOR games I didn't follow light or dark side, just took decisions that I thought would benefit me most.

That's a good point actually, it's only been fairly recently that it's been possible to be a bad character and not end up reducing your options so I suppose I've been conditioned to always be nice and complete all the quests in order to get the best stuff.

It only seems to be rpgs that I have this issue with, I can play stuff like the GTA games and have no problem killing innocent bystanders without a second thought. I think they have always seemed more like just a computer game to me but the more modern rpgs are getting better at creating a more 'realistic' world and characters within it.

Generally in RPGs or games with good and evil I go evil firstly because it is more fun and allows you to get/do more stuff :p

i usually end up going down a good path, but with skyrim recently, i just kinda want to see all the content with 1 character so ofcourse my good character up to a certain point ends up doing dark brotherhood quests, and i've never been 1 for stealth so now im wanted in every city and everythings ending in a blood bath.

I like to go for a bit of both :) Evil tends to be more entertaining though.

For example, I've been through KOTOR as both good and evil... guess which was more fun. Shooting lightning and choking people or protecting myself with a shield... hmmm !!!

Brings me back to my neverwinter night pw days. Without the bad guy who caused havoc the game wouldnt have been the same. Them were the days.

I always try a Chaotic-Neutral in Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter Nights, no matter how hard I try to stay Neutral I end up going Chaotic Evil, still, without companions means more XP for me !
