Hi all,
My wife's 2006 VW Polo 1.4 FSI developed a fault tonight. The engine management light is now permanently on and there is a component in the engine that is making a 'grinding' noise.
I have attached a few photos of the component. It makes this grinding noise if the ignition is on. The engine does not have to be running. When the engine was running, I noticed it made this noise when accelerating.
Any idea what it is? The nearest VW garage is 5 miles away and I'm a bit worried to drive it there. I've sent the VW garage an email with the photos so I'm hoping I'll get a reply tomorrow with costs.
The component is located on the right-hand side of the engine, on the left-hand side of the battery. There are many pipes coming out of it (black, flexible pipes and a thick rigid, metal pipe going into the block). IMG_0463 shows the rear of the component.
Thanks in advance guys.
