Can anyone help with these abstract patterns?

Nice of the OP to ask for help and actually make the questions slightly harder for anyone trying to help him by not actually bothering to include the full question.

Once again, I was asking for the pattern. It got figured out anyway. The whole point of the exam is to figure out the pattern, then ask the questions.

Stop bringing it up, the problem is solved

I know the problems is solved I'm just pointing out that if you're going to ask for help then making things (slightly) harder for the people you want to help you is a bit silly.

Boom! 730 :D

Grats dude, that's a top score!

The trick is now to pick universities that use a UKCAT cut off to determine interview invites. Places like Manchester and Newcastle/Durham are examples.

Unless you've got a burning desire to go to a particular city, make sure you avoid universities that place little or no value in UKCAT, such as Liverpool.

Thanks friend. My plan is to get as many interviews as possible (at least 3) because the chance of an offer increases significantly post interview.

I'm thinking 3 UKCAT universities + Birmingham. I am having second thoughts about Birmingham, but I've still got a month and a bit to decide.

Definitely applying to King's. I'm pretty much guaranteed an interview there. I'm also thinking about applying to Barts, Nottingham, Leicester. Maybe if I struggle for a 4th choice I'll look at Brighton Sussex and East Anglia :p

Remember that Kings is the most competitive uni for med entry bar Oxbridge. It's been a few years since I applied, but make sure you're 10-15 points clear of last year's cut off because there seems in be an annual inflation of cut off scores.

Barts is a solid choice, not sure on the others. I'd definitely consider Manc/New/Durham with your score. They're UKCAT heavy, less competitive and have a high interview to offer conversation (Durham was like 90% when I applied).

Make sure the rest of your application is air tight. If you're going for UKCAT heavy unis then there's less of an emphasis on your personal statement, but make sure you tick all the obvious boxes with regards to things like work experience and be aware of the little idiosyncrasies of different schools' admissions requirements.

You probably know all this already, but I said it anyway :)

With regards to competitiveness, these days, there's not much difference, they're all approx 5-6 applicants per place :)

I think with King's at the moment, they balance GCSEs with UKCAT to determine who gets an interview. So I think I'm safe on that front.

The problem with Manchester/Durham is that they're too far away for my liking. I'd ideally like to be somewhere that's not much more than a couple of hours car drive away from home.

The rest of my application is solid. I just gotta perfect my personal statement now really, and then I'm good to go. God this is starting to scare the crap out of me, I have one month, and all I have is a first draft which my dad laughed at :(

5-6 seems about right for most, KCL is 11 per place though according to last year's prospectus.

A laugh for your statement isn't necessarily a bad thing. In mine I put that I developed a passion for science from reading New Scientist on the loo!

I'm also thinking about applying to Barts

Do it!!

And congratulations/good luck :)

Actually, I say good luck, what I mean is get out while you still can. I hate my job. Ok maybe not hate, but being increasingly disillusioned and demotivated for the past 2 years hasn't helped.

But in my case he laughed because it was laughable :p :(

Congrats Anant. :)

Meghatronic, are you planning on entering medicine now?

Cheers bud :)

I remember a thread I made 2 years ago, you told me that you were an FY1 then, what are you doing now mate?

Just about ever doctor I've spoken to has told me how crap their job is, and gone off on a rant, but when I grill them on it, they crack and admit that they love their job and wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.

What an epic score, congrats chief!

I really should be reading 600Q right now..

Thanks bud.

Here's some tips for you:

Verbal reasoning: I didn't think I did that badly, but I only got 610. Most of the passages were quite long, longer than 600q. One was ridiculously long I had to scroll to read it. Just be prepared for quick reading!

Quantitative reasoning: I got 780, slightly disappointed with that to be honest. But it was a LOT easier than the 600q. In the book, you have to do 3 or 4 calculations to get an answer. In the real test, it was 1 or 2 MAX.

Abstract reasoning: 660. I was never any good at it, but if you can do the 600q book, you can do this. Most patterns are simple to spot. If you can't spot it within 40 seconds, guess, flag and move on.

Decision Analysis: I don't know how I got 860 lol. You will have bags of time in the exam, for the longer codes just write them down on the whiteboard provided, it makes it easier. If you can do 600q, then you can do this :)

Also remember your keyboard shortcuts! alt + n for next question, alt + c for calculator. Saved me valuable seconds in the exam.

Well done TheCenturion, you ******! :p

This is important: if you go to a centre where they say don't use the keyboard (like for me) IGNORE THEM, if you go to a centre where the consoles do not have a keyboard (from another forum) DEMAND ONE. Doing mathematics with a mouse is so backwards it's probably quicker doing them by hand on the white board.

Congrats Anant. :)

That's the plan, 2012 entry. But I find myself uncompetitive :(

Took the UKCAT this morning.
Not done a great deal of revision, started to panic.

Verbal Reasoning - 650
Quantitive Reasoning - 780
Abstract Reasoning - 790
Decision Analysis - 760

Average - 745

Over the moon!
