Aside from being a queen wasp (thanks dad), does anyone have a clue what this might be?

All I know is that it is "A 19th century wood and metal musket complete with bayonet". It looks to me like an Enfield percussion cap, but small details don't quite fit with the ones I've seen via Google, although I possess very limited knowledge on this stuff. I haven't inspected it in person yet, and apologies for the quality of the photograph.

Clearly it is an Assault musket with a large capacity single shot magazine

Someone should ban these dangerous barrel loading weapons of mass destruction

It does look like an Enfield 1853 pattern 3 Band rifle musket to me. I've got a firing repro and from the detail I can see in the pic it looks about right.

We supplied thousands of these to both the North and South in the American Civil War

Don't mock heres a great video from States United Against Gun Violence organisation promoting greater gun control in the states and it's one of the cleverest I've ever seen :)

***Sorry for slight hijack*** :(

A phased plasma rifle in 40 watt range.

Boy, you really know your firearms. (I can't remember the right line.)

19th century weapon of mass destruction....

Weapon of musket-struction.

[edit] serious answer - it does look like an Enfield 3 band percussion cap but there are a couple of oddities about it. Need a clearer picture to say anything definitive though.

My exact thoughts. I'll be seeing it in the flesh tomorrow, as I might be able to buy it.

Are there any markings on it? It's very hard to know where to begin. I originally thought it was a Brown Bess but ruled that out due to the metal rings around the barrel and stock. On further searching it could be any number of variants of French or Prussian muskets, they all very much seem to follow a similar pattern.

The difficulty is that pictures of said weapons on the internet all appear to be highly restored; perhaps in some cases beyond their original condition.

Except it has a percussion lock and looks to be in the correct proportions for the 53p Enfield, also from as much as can be seen in the image the bayonet socket looks correct for the 53p as well. Of the original all 53p I've seen (and there are quite a few as it was produced in such massive numbers in Birmingham and London) there's a fair amount of variation on some of the styling due to them being made under license by various comercial gun makers.

It does look like a nice example as it has bayonet. I'm very rerely allowed to put the bayonet on my repro in shows because of Health and Safety :( (I'm shoving black powder down the damn thing and pointing it at people, **** H&S  :p )
