Can anyone recommend a good engrossing game

Ok, cheers:)

You got my interest by comparing it to heli/plane combat sims, I'll have to have a look now :)

It's great fun.

You get the added fun of getting to build your own craft. And you always have more to do as there's loads of planets and moons to visit.

Even once you've visited them all you can try and be more efficient? Make a moon base, etc.

Dark Souls is my choice, sorta strategic gameplay that makes you think about your next move, and the art direction is great coming from a eastern developer.

Don't try Skyrim, it's very shallow and dumbed down so much compared to some other games, including the previously release morrowind.

I agree with sins of the solar empire. Its a fantastic series of games that made me stay up til the early hours of the morning many many many times lol.

My curve ball game would be Divinity 2. One of the best RTS games I've ever played with a scope and storyline that is very ambitious but actually worked. You start as the usual weakling character who is training to become a dragon slayer, who then turns out to be half dragon. You later work your way to a fortress where you need to kill a very powerful enemy and you gain an artifact that lets you change into a dragon at will. Then the zones you've been through start to change massively as you can simply turn into the dragon, fly around breathing fire on enemies and destroying military installations and even cities.

Sadly I got rid of my PC before I could have a good crack at the expansion to it, which raised the level cap as you start a new character (or import the old one) and start the new story directly after the game ends.

Starcraft 2.

I'd say this. If you're not wanting it to be too easy like Skyrim you're pretty much guaranteed to lose 50% of your online games due to the way the matchmaking works.

I don't know how much it costs now, but if it's still pretty expensive (it's ActivisionBlizzard so it probably is :p) you might want to wait a month for Heart of the Swarm to come out. It's the expansion for it (but doesn't require SC2 to play).

I thought it did require WoL to play? :o

You can find Starcraft 2 for around £20 now, I think.

Sins of a solar empire with large fleets mod my go to game in between fm sessions especially the Star Wars/ Star Trek mods

Do you enjoy any racing games/sims? these can last you for years if doing full length races

i quite like the F1 games but i wouldn't call them racing sims but doing a full season with full length races will last you a while
