Good afternoon,

I'm after a WiFi access point/repeater.

My house is wired throughout with CAT 6 but my WiFi is appauling in the back of the house so I need something I can plug in to give wireless?

Not too sure what's out there. Do I need to create a 'new' WiFi network or is there something that'll use the same settings/name etc as my superhub?

What's best to do and what do people recommend?

These are great

The UAP model, it's PoE too, so you can put the power brick next to your switch and power it up through the network cable alone.

Or you could use something like this

Use the same SSID and password

Thanks bledd. I like the look of those UAP AP's. I've got just the place for it. Many reviews seem to mention possible install issues until the firmware is upgraded, have you found that to be the case?

I'm thinking of maybe getting a few in the end and turning off WiFi on my superhub. Have you any experience using more than one?

I was also looking at the Asus EA-N66 ? If I read it right I can connect it to my network and use it to extend my network or create a new wifi network?

Not sure why but I find networking head work

First thing I do with any networking related device is update the firmware.

If they have the same SSID and password, you'll find your devices will just switch to the stronger signal

Yup, turn off DHCP, pick a static address that works on your network and you're set.

Google 'n66 as access point' or similar

Bit of a thread revival but the TP-Link AP I have upstairs aint cutting it. Any idea's what would be good as an AP right now? I have both ethernet and power available for it.

Is unifi kit still the one to get?

Regards the range extender I'd be all over it if it could extend from an ethernt connect. I get not WiFi upstairs at all. House is wired everywhere with cat 6/ need something I can plug in and create a solid WiFi connection upstairs

Lol

No point investing in old tech, the new version is AC (much faster) compared to the older N gen tech.

Fair point and ordinarily I agree but the AP is for upstairs where the hgihest demands are browsing and the occasional stream. The new AC version looks set to be about £100 so I'm thinking the older one may well do?

Start with what you have kicking about, if you have an old router that for example runs DDWRT or similar then it could easily be repurposed for zero cost. Also consider where the main router is positioned, a small change can make a big difference though the SH didn't exactly live up to its name.

It's £81.60 if you look about ;)

I've just bought one of the new Ubiquiti UAP‑AC‑LITE APs. Was saying a November delivery but I got it last Friday for the price that Sparx mentioned. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit. Very small but very powerful.

It replaced a weak Meraki MR12 which had blown it's POE port. Installed in the same place , on the first floor, and gives fantastic coverage over a 3 floor house
