Can anyone spec me a tidy AP?

Cheers guys. It's going in the loft, will I have any issues running alongside a superhub 2 ac? Sh is downstairs and as mentioned everywhere is wired for ethernet

Ordered the pro version today and an edgerouter lite, combined price is about the same as a top end consumer all in one device.

Looking forward to setting it all up!

No issues running it with the SH2. Just disable the wireless on it and let the AP do the work. Will pick up an IP address from the SH2, run the UbiFi management console to get it setup and away you go

Was thinking of keeping wifi active on the superhub as it doesn't reach upstairs. Ad then have the access point for upstairs? Is that the best bang for buck at £80?

For the cost, I don't think anything will touch it. Sure you can drop down to the lower models that don't support AC, which is about £10 quid cheaper, so it's up to you :)

The long range (LR) model that does B/G/N, UAP-LR, may also help you as it's got more transmit power. You can always buy it, see if it works and if not send it back.

I personally don't think you'll have an issue with a proper access point and leave the Superhub doing what it's good at, being a router/modem :)

The LR version I've just noticed it only about £18 more expensive, worth changing my order? Hasn't dispatched yet as stock not arriving until w/c 9/11/15

Well guys, wish I'd listened form the start. That said not listening means I've had the AC version. What a gem.

Can I mix and match with older ones? Could use a bit extra downstairs but don't necessarily need ac.

I'm waiting impatiently for my AC-LR to arrive. In theory it's out for delivery now.

I'm going to use it to replace a frankly, rubbish Meraki MR18. That'll be most likely going in the bin when the new AP has been installed.

Mine has arrived and it's up and running. I'd already setup a Linux VM for the Unifi controller software so it was just a case of configuring that.

So far I've only got 1 SSID setup, I need to do the others and then I can retire the Meraki.

Over the weekend I finished setting up my AC-LR and I have to say it was a great purchase. With the Meraki I had no coverage in the 4th bedroom (part of an extensions so the signals have to travel through what once was an exterior wall) but now I have access in there just fine.

I still need to physically install the thing, I think it'll go in the hallway by the front door but I need to look at how I can get the cabling into the ceiling there.

The Meraki has now been disconnected and will be going back to work next time I'm in the office. I was thinking of cracking it and putting OpenWRT on there but don't really see the point.

Is there a way to get it to only use AC? Seems to just use 2.4GH/z despite a scan showing huge congestion.

Log into the Unifi controller, go to devices, select the AP then on the right hand side choose configuration. Go to WLANs and you have the option of selecting if the WLAN group is available over 2.4 or 5GHz. I think that should do the trick.

My AP-AC-Pro turned up today.

As a test I set it up in one corner of the house and tested in the opposite corner (2 floors beneath it)

Maxes out my ~75/20 connection :D

I was originally planning to buy 2 AC-LR's to cover my house with one outside the 4th bedroom and the other in the hallway by the front door but that's not necessary.

At the moment the AC-LR is in the corner of the lounge, about as far away as it can be from the 4th bedroom and I'm getting excellent signal in there.

The plan is to mount this one on the landing, probably near the loft hatch. I need to double check that I get good coverage everywhere first but I'm not expecting any problems.
