Hi, I've been out of PC gaming for a while, and I desperately want back in. I've only got about £300-£400 to spend, so I'm really looking for something that will do ok for now, but will be upgradeable once I have more money. I don't need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or hdd, but I need pretty much everything else! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Matt, I'm afaird the £400 mark is a bit of a push already atm, thats why I'm more looking for something I can add too over time.

Lee thanks for the spec, do you have any idea how well it would run in terms of modern gaming and what I would be looking to upgrade first?

thanks guys

sorry for being newbish, but if i went for these specs, what sort of upgrade oppurtunities would i have in the near future?

Hey, I've ordered some of ghostriders spec, and Im gonna order some more tomorrow after my wages go through, but I have another question before I do! Does anyone know the difference between the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) £126.95, and the, Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-049-CO) £119.95? I dont know much about them but usually the bigger number the better right? Altho the x1900 is cheaper than the x1800?

Got the last of my stuff this morning and im just about up and running :) I just wanna say a big thanks to everyone who helped me, this was my first time building from scratch and I could not have done it without you guys helping me, I've been on message boards long enough to know often people are unwilling to help new people who have contributed nothing to the community so I really appreciate the friendly and helpful atmosphere here, thanks I lot guys, I only wish I could do something to contribute back :)

haha well i did learn today that you need to connect both a 24 pin power thing to the mobo, AND a 4 pin one, so I guess if someone else has the same prob i did starting up i could help out there :p And I deff plan to stick around :)

Actually I have spotted a small problem, when the system starts up, at the bit when its listing the system spec, it says 1gb single-channel, when it should be dual channel? Have I set something up wrong?

Well I put one in slot 1 of 4, and one in slot 3 of 4, they were colour coded the same, I thought that was how I was meant to do it?
