Hi,

The first time i tried looking for a new monitor i was very disapointed by the quality of the new LED ones compared to my CRT monitor and given the price of the ones of equal quality at the time decided to stick with CRT.

My question is, what monitor could replace my CRT and be better than it.

My CRT is a Hansol Maxellan 900p 1600x1200 max res, specs i believe are these.

budget is around £250 mark, though if there is a stand out winner i may be able to push.

would be used for normal use and gaming.
Graphics card as current is 4870 current res is 1280x1024 which i like:)

You might wanna state just what you consider to be better.
Resolution wise there's plenty available that will be better (Full HD = more pixels than 1600x1200).
Reaction time wise, no. But who knows, you might not be very sensitive to it and a much higher reaction time wouldn't be something you notice.
Are viewing angles important, color accuracy? You want a high pixel density?

If you don't know yourself what you find important then I recommend walking into a few stores so you can see for yourself what's available.

Take a look at Ag Neovo glass fronted monitors. For years I ran diamondtron CRT's, switching to TFT's colours looked washed out and dull in comparison. My Ag Neovos with glass front are closest thing I've found to the old Diamondtron. You have contrast and colour similar to the CRT, except the precision of digital TFT. I have 4 of the ag neovos for software development work, I can spend hours on them with no eye strain, the glass also cuts glare.

Also I shoot Motorsport photography, all pictures below adjusted in post production on AG Neovo's.

Ag Neovo monitors, along with Seasonic another great product OCUK don't sell!

there arent any pc stores near me most of them closed down agges ago ;)

as i said i want something that is as good if not better than my CRT and so by this i mean something that has what a CRT has, good colour, contrast ect.

I have seen some LCDs and they just look washy and very weak.

RES wise i finding 1600x1200 is fine, but if it makes a difference then ofc would go higher. So looking at around 22"

recommendations? Im sure there have been some reviews in PC mags that have made some of the monitors stand out, which ones are they?

Been looking around and seems that 23" monitors seem to be the best atm and so wondering what are these two like for general use and gaming, as they both seem to be IPS which i hear is good..

Asus VG236HE 23" TRUE 120Hz 3D Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black
Asus PA238Q 23" Professional ProArt Widescreen P-IPS LCD Monitor - Black [PA238Q]
