My landlord got sky phone, internet and TV installed yesterday. And I can connect to the wifi network from my laptop, but web pages just display "Server not found".

What might the problem be?

(I already tried resetting the router)

Nothing obviously wrong there.

Try nslookup bbc.co.uk at the command prompt to see if DNS is able to resolve.

Sure you haven't got any proxy settings configured in IE? Also, how quickly does it reply with "Server not found"? Is it a matter of a few seconds, or is it instant?
I use firefox and I don't know how to configure proxy settings.

Can you ping 4.2.2.2?
How do I find out?

you can find the router by entering http://192.168.0.1 into your browser. The login information may still match what's on the router's label.

Should have asked, how are you posting on here at the moment?
I can't get the username password right now. I'll try to get it from my landlord in the morning and post back here when I have it. (I'm currently connecting from my '3' usb dongle).

Have you tried manually setting the DNS settings on the adapter? Try 8.8.8.8 (Google's Public DNS) for the preferred DNS Server.

Just skip to "Here's How":

Thanks but those instructions are for win7 and I'm on XP.

Have you tried making sure everything's plugged in to the router? No loose wires or anything?

Also, I would've thought it would be your landlord's responsibility to contact them.

Yeah it all seems to be plugged in correctly. Two green lights on the front, one for power and I assume the other is to indicate connectivity. (just guessing though)

As for the landlord it's kind of a live-in landlord, more of a housemate. Yeah it's his resposibility, but things would get done a lot faster if I do them myself. :D

You mentioned that you’d reset the router. Depending what you mean by resetting and how Sky handles router configurations you may have wiped the information it needs to successfully connect.

Neither of us has seen it working yet. And as for resetting, I only tried that after it wouldn't connect, so I don't think that has done anything *fingers crossed*

I guess I'll have to get in touch with sky about it then.

Thanks for all the help.
