My landlord got sky phone, internet and TV installed yesterday. And I can connect to the wifi network from my laptop, but web pages just display "Server not found".

What might the problem be?

(I already tried resetting the router)

Sure you haven't got any proxy settings configured in IE? Also, how quickly does it reply with "Server not found"? Is it a matter of a few seconds, or is it instant?

Looks like your router is relaying DNS, turning that off can help sometimes.

Can you ping 4.2.2.2?

If you can then try entering in the DNS addresses manually instead of relying on the router to handle it.

Nothing obviously wrong there.

Try nslookup bbc.co.uk at the command prompt to see if DNS is able to resolve.

I use firefox and I don't know how to configure proxy settings.

How do I find out?

you can find the router by entering http://192.168.0.1 into your browser. The login information may still match what's on the router's label.

Should have asked, how are you posting on here at the moment?
I can't get the username password right now. I'll try to get it from my landlord in the morning and post back here when I have it. (I'm currently connecting from my '3' usb dongle).

Have you tried manually setting the DNS settings on the adapter? Try 8.8.8.8 (Google's Public DNS) for the preferred DNS Server.

Just skip to "Here's How":

Thanks but those instructions are for win7 and I'm on XP.

If you can't login to the router there's only a limited amount you can do.

To check that there is actually a WAN connection there to use try ping 212.58.241.131 at the command prompt and make sure you get a reply.

If you do then hardcoding the DNS should help in the short term, but it is just papering over the cracks.

Have you tried making sure everything's plugged in to the router? No loose wires or anything?

Also, I would've thought it would be your landlord's responsibility to contact them.

Yeah it all seems to be plugged in correctly. Two green lights on the front, one for power and I assume the other is to indicate connectivity. (just guessing though)

As for the landlord it's kind of a live-in landlord, more of a housemate. Yeah it's his resposibility, but things would get done a lot faster if I do them myself. :D
