Can Cpu-Z be wrong?

Only thing I can suggest is look in the BIOS again and check to see what the multiplier is set to and FSB for the cpu!
Or see if there is a new BIOS revision or try a CMOS reset.

Its probably an option in the bios that decreases CPU speed when your system doesn't need it, to save energy (kind of like the Intel speed step but an AMD version?).

My cpu-z also reads my chip incorrectly. I have just updated the motherboard and i am also getting strange values.

You should see my Abit Uguru...it thinks my chip is running at 20c idle....for 10 minutes i was in low temp heaven until i woke up :)

This is Cool n Quiet, as was mentioned earlier in the thread :) Nothing to worry about at all. Here's a shot from my CPU-Z, note that the clock speed was changing every few seconds as the CPU is scaled up and down according to demand.

In Vista there's a setting (entirely independent of the BIOS) which effectively runs Cool n Quiet for you. Unlike in XP, you don't need to install anything for it to work. If you want to see full speed on your CPU all the time (a waste, imho) then:

Control Panel >> Power Options >> Change Plan Settings (for the selected plan you're using) >> Change Advanced Power Settings >>

Expand the Processor Power Management section, and adjust the minimum AND maximum values to 100%. This will stop the CPU scaling down when not in use, and will show the full speed all the time. Why bother though, for general use? May as well save the clocks and the power imho ;)

HTH.

Really got my hopes up for a min then with the vista inbuild thing but mine are both set to 100% :(
also my last post didnt seam to work, an update is I tried resetting bios to no avail. Also tried bios' fail safe settings and then optimal settings, no change.

*edit - Also the only settings I can find for the cpu in bios are to change it from 200mhz up to 300mhz. The ram settings I set to 800mhz instead of default but in windows they still register as 100mhz

Ah OK, my bad then :o

Nps it was the best hope so far :)
Also I had another poke round bios and although I cant upload the photos (lost phone cable) I def confirmed cool n quiet is disabled.

The options in bios for the cpu are:
CPU frequency (from 200-300) currently set at 200
K8<->NB HT speed (currently Auto)
K8<->NB HT width (also auto)

cmon people dont be shy, there must be a reason why this happened after a blue screen of death, so it cant be hardware based :/
Maybe I should just reinstall windows

Ok screw it, despite every program saying the performance is down I can still play full hd video. And you cant do that if yuor cpu is only 2x 630mhz, so it must be ok...

Is that an ASRock mobo by any chance? Might have to manually change the settings from Auto to the highest possible, e.g. HT = 1000MHz, etc :)

Also running latest BIOS?
