I purchased the following from OCUK:

AMD Athlon 64 3000 Newcastle 130nm (Socket 754) - Retail (CP-070-AM)

However when I run CPU-Z it says I have a:

AMD Athlon 64 3000 Venice 90nm

How can I tell which CPU I actually have? :p

Thanks in advance

Id believe cpu-z the latest 3000+ cpus are vence cores you have scored there. To confirm you could type your stepping in to google and that would tell you for sure.

don't worry, it's better. SSE3, cooler, more overclockable.

Code for the Venice would be:
ADA3000BXBOX
The stepping would start off with 4 characters and an "E" to designate an E Revision CPU

The BX is the crucial bit as that is what makes it the 90nm Venice.

yep. Essentially a venice without a dual channel memory controller. So it's got the 10x multi, making it better still for overclocking

Unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment to go through the whole rigmarole of removing heatsink & paste plus repasting - is there any other way that I can be sure? :p

To be frank, it's definitely a venice. Not only does it state 90nm and venice, it shows E6 stepping and a core voltage of 1.392V. Newcastle cores are 1.5V.

Excellent!

Looks like I'll be making my first steps into the world of overclocking and see how fast I can get it running with the stock cooler that it came with. :D

Righty ho, the CPU is marked with the following:

ADA3000AIK4BX
CBBWE0542FAH
X035257J51***

Venice or not Venice. That is the question! :p

The plot thickens...

I googled the first serial # you listed, and found this thread on the AMD forums:

This guy has a cpu marked "ADA3000AIK4BX" which he thinks is an A64 3000+ NewCastle, but someone else is telling him that it's a Palermo :)

Another Google link is to a competitor site, which gives this description:

CPU/Prozessor / CPU: Athlon 64 / Packungstyp: Tray / Sockel: Socket 754 / Taktfrequenz: 2.000 MHz / Prozessorkern: Newcastle / L2-Cache: 512 KB / Front Side Bus: 1.600 MHz / Spannung: 1,40 V / Package: micro-OPGA / TDP: 51 W / Strukturbreite: 90 nm / ohne Kühlung
