I say no, you're either born with a good singing voice or you're not. My mate says anyone can learn to sing well. I believe it to some degree but I've seen too many fools on X Factor (the missus watch with me in the room on the PC) claiming they had years of singing practice but still cannot carry a tune, but they're probably lying. So, can anyone learn to sing well?

I would say it is a bit of both. There is a certain amount of natural talent (or lack) that can be improved via singing lessons.

some people are completely tone-deaf and really can't hear when something is out of tune, so the answer is no

so to answer your question, most people, but not all

Some people will never be good no matter how much they try and have lessons, others will probably sound ok with practise. Generally I think you either have it or you don't.

If you're tone deaf, nothing anyone can do can change it!
But others may be able to improve the quality with practise

I think people who arn't actually tone deaf can develop the control of thier voice needed to sing, unless there's a problem with thier voice.

On the other hand, not many people have a good "quality" to thier voice, suitable for singing. This cannot be developed to any great extent imo. In this case it'll always just sound like a common person trying to sing, even if it's pitch perfect.

No, people who are tone deaf will never be able to sing. It's not like playing the piano or guitar where so long as it's in tune, if your fingers are in the right place then you'll be playing the right note. To be able to sing, you have to be able to repeat notes from another source.

Most musicians can sing well, they just need training to develop tone and breath control. I was in a lot of orchestras as a teenager and it wasn't uncommon for people to start singing on buses or during breaks at camp. I don't think I once met someone who played and instrument well and couldn't sing.

I am the best singer in the world, bar none.

Its just others who disagree. Jealousy, its an awful thing.

:p

I personally think you can improve without a doubt, proper training for your voice can do wonders but it's still whether or not your voice is pleasing to others ears' :D

Hmm, which reminds me. Another pal of mine cannot sing for crap if he goes A cappella, but the moment he starts playing guitar and singing along, he is quite good.

Sure a voice hitting the right notes is pleasing?
