Equal to this setup
EVGA. nForce 650i ultra Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8200 2.66GHz
6MB Cache Dual Core 1333MHz 4 Gig DIMM-DRAM NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS with 512 DDR3 memory (PCIe 1.00 x16)

For around $800 dollars? Just say if I can, no links are needed.

Look at putting a Sandybridge i3, H67 Mini ITX motherboard and a cheap GeForce card (GTX 460 maybe) into a Sugo SG05 - smaller than a shoebox, wipes the floor with your reference spec.

I wouldn't actually say the SG05 was smaller than a shoebox, but if you require a meaty graphics card it is probably the smallest system you could realistically build.

Newer low profile cards will fit in the likes of the Antec ISK cases which might outperform your spec, but both the SG05 and ISK cases use an M-Itx motherboard, and when I was looking to build an ISK I found that LGA 775 motherboards were about the same price as LGA1155/1156 so a proper upgrade to Sandybridge might be worth looking at.

The options are a little limited, but still very compelling.

Half height graphics -
Antec ISK 300

Full height graphics -
Sugo SG05/06

Antec is sub shoe box, Sugo is a little high for a shoe box, but still small and boxy!

Hehe, ya, I really only upgrade if a game I want requires it. It would be nice to have a nice small system, be awesome to do one in a NES case, but that requires messing with the case & it is a bit small to do a system with any power in. I found 3 things that look good, but they are on estore sites & I know OcUK no like linkies like that.

That case is cheaper, so thanx for that.

For gaming, an i5 2500K, don't even bother looking at anything else.

And I've got 8GB of Corsair PC12800 RAM (two sticks of 4GB) in my SG05. Cheap these days, so don't bother with 4GB.

That, in combination with your spec, will be a very capable rig.

Yes.

If you use this case: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=17298767&postcount=442

You can get a half height card in, current best is 6570 which is a bit worse than a 8800GT sauce.

Add in whatever ITX board and processor that your budget can do. Throw in a slim optical and HDD. Or mod for two 2.5" HDD.

It has its own 220W power supply unlike most very small cases so it actually has the power to run a 95W processor plus a discrete graphics card.

If you go for the very small option don't bother paying for overclockable parts, the airflow is extremely limited.

Will this work together?

SilverStone SG05BB-450 ALL Black Plastic/SECC Mini-ITX Computer Case with SFX 450W 80+ Bronze Certified/Single +12V rail Power Supply (Black) with
120mm fan

Intel Core i3-2100 Processor 3.1GHz 3 MB Cache Socket LGA1155

Corsair 4GB Dual Channel Corsair DDR3 Memory for Intel Core i5 Processors (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)

MSI nVidia GeForce GT440 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card N440GT-MD1GD3/LP

LG Super-Multi Slim Blu-ray Combo Drive CT21N

Asus P8H61-I LGA1155/ Intel H61(B3)/ DDR3/ A&GbE/ Mini ITX Motherboard

I got
Minimum PSU Wattage: 220 W
Recommended 270 W

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp they didn't have that GPU in my links, so I picked the 460 GPU.

Short answer. Yes. :D

Long answer.

SG05 with 450W PSU
Gigabyte GA-H55N USB3
i5 860
Corsair Vegeance Blue 2 x 4GB
Intel 160GB G2 SSD
Slimline DVD drive (needed an adaptor)
Sapphire HD6950 2GB

Currently typing using the above.

Using the stock cooler at the moment because the CPU placement is too close to the graphics card to allow my NT06E. CPU runs day to day in the 40's (degrees C) and GPU runs at about 45. Up to 60 and 70 respectively during 3DMark.

Using an SSD enables you to leave out the 3.5" HDD bracket, which does improve the airflow.

Love it! :D

I would also look at a Shuttle SH67H3 or SH67H7:

The smallest light gaming build would be a 65W AMD A8-3800 and an FM1 mini-ITX motherboard. The 100W A8-3850 can be powered off a 150W DC-DC PSU:

It seems the whole A8-3850 mini-ITX system with the Asus F1A75-I Deluxe mini-ITX motherboard consumes about 110W under load when playing games. IMHO,this is quite decent since it has an HD5550 DDR3 level graphics card.

in planning stages of a G620(sandybridge dual core) + hd6450 + silverstone case (not 100% which one yet but small one) mitx board, 430w psu,win7 comes to around £350

gonna be used as web browsing/media pc
very low power g620 does like 11w at idle 70w load

i3-2100t uses less power but cost like £40 more.

OK, it is probably the size of quite a large shoebox, but if you want the additional expansion properties of a micro-atx motherboard... and to use 'standard' components, without paying Shuttle prices, how about the Silverstone SG02?

Has anyone built a system around this particular case?

I have actually just ordered one myself, as a friend has asked me to put together a fairly compact system for him.
