Hi all

I'm on the 3 network (yes I know!) and have a Nokia 6680 3G phone.

Thing is I'm fed up with the phone, its crap!

So I wanna buy a Motorola V3 of a m8, get it unlocked and use that instead.
I had a Motorola V500 a while back and prefered it to this stupid 6680.

Am I OK to do this?
Is there any technical or network reason why I cannot?

I dont think the V3 is 3G or a smart phone, will that cause a problem?

Any advice appreciated :)

Mick

Three will get rather upset if you do this, and will probably threaten to cut off your service.

By using a 2g handset, you'd be permanantly locked onto O2 rather than three (Three rent space from O2 for when three is unavailable) and it costs them a fortune. As such they have strict terms and conditions regarding acceptable equipment and enforce them.

Oh!

So what your saying is I can only replace my phone with another 3G handset?

What if I called 3 and told them I was very unhappy with my phones performance and wanted to change. Would they care or just tell me I'm stuck with what I've got..

Forgive me for being a bit stoopid but I take it 3 only do 3G phones? or do they have a 2G setup too, that I could change to.

Three only operate a 3g network. They rent space from O2 to provide 2g coverage when their own network is not available. It costs them a lot more to route calls through O2 than through their own network, hence why they don't like it if you use a 2g phone, or permenantly lock a 3g phone to 2g.

To be honest, if you phone them and complain they probably won't care. If the phone is faulty, they may suggest repair/replacement but if it's simply a "I don't like it", you're not likely to get that far.

Technically you can only use a phone from three, rather than any 3g phone (although they don't tend to enforce restrictions against offnet 3g handsets as strongly). It's also worth noting that 3g handsets from other networks may not work for certain features due to the differing setup used by three compared to the other networks.

So I'm stuffed then :(

As for why I dont get on with the 6680, its just a lot of minor things that add up to the fact its definately not a what I'd call a SMART phone. Oh and I've seen a slug move faster than the 6680 going thru its menus, or retrieving data. It gives SLoooooooW a new meaning

Thanks
