Can I contest the congestion charge?

I'm sorry but I have to ask. What could possibly possess you to CHOOSE to drive in London? I drove in London once. Once.

Do you have trouble driving? I drive around london all the time and last time i checked the same traffic laws apply as anywhere else, you just get caught in above average levels of traffic...

The word is, being observant and reading signs costs nothing ;)

I know this, my excuse is its a crapheap of a van with no ABS and in a place where slamming on brakes can happen more often than not and you have a 4 wheel slide from something made out of cheese then I'd rather make sure I don't go into the back of someone :p :D

I drive in London often, it really isn't that bad if you know the rat runs. :)

I do but they are a real pain in the arse with a 45ft trailer...... :( :p

O.P.

For all the debate re the pro's & con's of the congestion charge, its hardly something thats neither well signed nor difficult to pay in advance - as an example, I can pay it over the counter in my local shop up here in Staffordshire!

Theres a few routes that HGV's have to take due to size / weight and / or width restrictions that force us to enter the congestion charge zone albeit briefly - we still have to pay......

Do you have to pay it yourself though?

As surely the company would :p

My dad drives into London almost every night, never any congestion charge then mind :p

How does London use this congestion charge to tackle the congestion problem?

Has there been vast improvements in public transport since the fee started?

Are there any statistics on this?

Just curious.

In my opinion it hasn't really aleviated much of a congestion problem. Personally what I think creates more congestions are the bus lanes (or rather lack of use of bus lanes owing to road works, out of hours use, parking bicycles etc...), the HUGE busses (inc. bendy ones) and just sheer volume.

There are so many rat runs in and around most people on want to go through london rather than to a destination in it. So all the roads that people used to use before the charge are just as busy as since, if anything they are probably busier. So if anything it has made congestion worse as all the through roads are now even busier.

I think London is possibly the biggest rip off city in the world. The fat cats in Labour are a joke trying to extract every last penny from hard working motorists to fund the lifestyle of the scum who would much rather pop out a few kids than do a days work. Working class Britain? My arse, those of us that work get stung. What kind of country punishes you for doing well in life, buying a nice house, a nice car, having a couple of kids, etc. Joke joke joke and this is just one more small thing to a very large pile, the congestion charge - £130 to drive your car...that's 6 months worth of road tax to most people

How does London use this congestion charge to tackle the congestion problem?

It generates lots of cash for them and moves the problem to another - soon to be congestion charged - area.....

The driver has to pay and then claim back on expenses, so yes, the company pays.
