Can I defragment a mapped network drive?

I've got two computers in the same LAN.
Windows XP and Windows 98. Windows 98 drive C, and coincidently the only drive on the laptop is mapped on the main Windows XP computer.
When I run disk defragment once a month on Windows XP can I not defrag the Windows 98 C drive from Windows XPs disk defrag app?

nope.

a few third party (read: paid for) programs support defragmenting over a network if they both have the same software installed on each pc. which of course would mean at least 2 licenses....

just schedule a defrag task to run once a month.

or manually run it via remote access.
