When I bought windows Vista 32 bit, I was able with a fiddle to do a fresh install. I am running vista 32 and want to install windows 7 64, but on a new hardisc and I only have the upgrade disc. Any help would be appriciated.

I've just done this on a laptop, had to update the BIOS to do win7 to win7 upgrade procedure however:
1) You can now download the .ISO directly from iRiver then burn to a D00v-D
2) Boot from the disc and install the OS but DO NOT ENTER THE ACTIVATION KEY they e-mail to your student address
3) Boot from the disc again and click 'install' then 'upgrade', never choose the 'advanced/custom' option, and I chose to upgrade purely from the disc, not the internet which is the green-ticked option it recommends
4) After 30mins-1.5hrs it will have upgraded win7 to win7
5) You can now activate your copy of windows before the 30day cut off point using your key sent to you by microsoft
