I absolutely CANNOT go over this amount and would love to cut down wherever I can without losing too much performance.

Do I really need 600W though? Thats what I initially had in the spec, but since the 4870 only needs 500W (according to the ATI site) I figured I might as well stick with 500.

Is there a noticeable difference in the step up from Phenom II 940 to 955? What with the step up from DDR2 to DDR3?

Id stick with your original spec, very well balanced
The CPU is more of a step up than the RAM, if you really did want to save some money then yeah you could drop down to an AM2+ mobo and DDR2 RAM without effecting performance too much, youre right that 500W will be fine though so you dont need to find money for that, if it were me Id stick with original spec

Looks good, on the graphics have you considered a 4770? It sits in between the 4850 and the 4870 performance wise, but is cheaper, uses far less power and is much more efficient due to it's 40nm chip. Are you sure you don't want the Gigabyte board at that price? The RAM is okay... are you sure you couldn't use some OCZ stuff? It's cheap and has one big ass heatsink on top. You could save on the case if you went for a CM Elite 330/334/335, all of which are the same as the 300 but have tool less installation and are cheaper. Hard Drives, it's okay but i would get something like the Hitachi or WD or Samsung... or that. It's personal preference really. I don't really like that keyboard:

And get this as an Optical Drive:

You might be able to get free delivery, depending on how long you've been a member. That should shave off £10.

I was thinking about the 4770 but I was told their performance is inbetween the 4830 and 4850. Im pretty sure thats the level its at. I want something a bit more powerful which will hopefully last me a while. My hope is that this PC will replace my 360 for gaming apart from the console exclusives.

I definitely wanna stick with this mobo, 790gx chipsets come with integrated graphics so even if my gpu goes kaput I can still watch HD movies when Im waitin for RMA >_>

I have decided to change to the LOgitech kb&m after readin reviews of both sets and the microsoft one seems very bad.

I went with the cheapest 500GB HDD that had decent reviews.

And why the more expensive optical drive? Im trying to save money here even if its jus £2 :P

As for downgrading the case, the Antec 300 comes with 2 fans whereas the others dont and while it would still be cheaper to buy a 335 or something with a fan...I love the look of the 300 and since that big ole box is gonna be pretty apparent...I guess I have to stick with it.

Yeh Im really not compromising am I...how the hell am I meant to save lol

Really? I've heard it out performs it. Well maybe they're about the same on average, for different tasks. You couldn't really notice a difference though, i know where it'd put my money.

Yeah, the Gigabyte has the same chipset (i think). It's practically the same price, so it's just a matter of which brand you prefer.

Glad to help :)

I thought the Hitachi had good reviews? Whatever... you're choice :p

The more exepnsive Optical Drive because it's faster and it has Lightscribe, which is very useful and very worth it on both counts. You're paying £2 more for a better product, by more than that factor.

Right so this is how it looks now. Decided to swap for Lightscribe drive (had no idea what it was before) and swap for the Hitachi drive and seeing mostly positive reviews of Newegg.

That 334 plus fan combo is very very tempting...I'll take a look around for a while, read countless reviews and look at many pics...Im also tryna get a second hand 300. If the guy sells it to me for say £40, Im sorted.

Looks good. It's not a bad case, the 300. I just prefer the low end CM Models because they have the same features it does (mesh front) and they have features of more expensive cases, the toolless installation.

Sry but your original spec was better, HDD is more important than optical
Yes the Optiarc is the better optical drive but the Seagate is better than the Hitachi, there was a bad batch of Seagates where they got quite a hammering on the forums but that batch is long gone, they perform better than the Hitachis. HDD review
Only small point is the RAM you selected is currently out of stock, theres a faster set available for a tenner more, or wait

Im only ordering at the end of August. So hopefully its al in stock by then. Might jus go for the Seagate then, theres only a quid in it.

I would go coolermaster elite 335 case, gigabyte UD3P AMD770 board with a Dell 2209WA lcd but still that's a very good spec for £750.

Meh I need a monitor with HDMI in for 360 and DVI for PC. Dell lacks HDMI.

That board doesnt have a SB750 chipset so not as good for overclocking or RAID. But the case is tempting. Im tryna see if I can get a second hand one for cheap but if not, it will probably be the 335.

Moppy, if you intend to buy at the end of August, then the likelihood of you getting the same spec for cheaper is very high. The release of the Phenom II 965 will further push down the prices of all the existing Phenoms :p

You can either save some of use the amount saved on better quality parts elsewhere.

You can probably get away with the DVD rom, keyboards and mouse too.. have you tried asking your mates to see if they have any to spare? If they are into computing and has been upgrading, you might be able to nab one for free..lol (you can result in savings of 50-80 quid, if not more?).

Important thing is to aquire all the core components, peripherals and DVD Roms can be easily replaced with better ones at a later date.

Im hopin the 965 is out by then cos I could use a price drop. Hell DX11 comin out by then would REALLY help me out. But yeh, this is the spec I plan to stick with. If I can get it for cheaper then, then I will love that.
