Can I do better with £750?

Im hopin the 965 is out by then cos I could use a price drop. Hell DX11 comin out by then would REALLY help me out. But yeh, this is the spec I plan to stick with. If I can get it for cheaper then, then I will love that.

Think the 965 is supposed to be out on the 13th August. Retailers should have in in stock after the release date. So eah, it's looking good for you mate :)

DX11 however will be awhile. Win 7 comes out on 22nd Oct I think, it's the only OS that can benefit from it. The first gen of DX11 gpu's is supposed to be out before that... I dont think it will come out by end of Aug though, not too optimistic with ATi's release date... therefore you will probably be paying a simlar price for your GPU.. but you never know, certain parts maybe on promotion and you will benefit from one promo if not the other.

Just wait and see! :D

dont see much point in 955 and ddr3 to be honest, 940 and ddr2 would be pretty much same thing, just cheaper;

crap graphics card as well; although has good points - will be always warm in the house; get the 4890;

i would also suggest getting kingston ram

oh, and you forgot the cooler :P

because AM2 is a dead socket, just like 775 is. Am3 is not that much more expensive and worth it for the upgradability later on

I was considering 940 and DDR2 at one point too, but meh I want something that I can upgrade with the times if necessary. So DDR3 and an AM3 mobo seems the way to go.

And the 4870 1GB is not a crap card. It will handle most things at 1080p Ive been told and since thats the max resolution Im gonna play at, I think I'll be fine. Id rather not buy a 4890 for the 5 or 10 more fps I can get.

Get the 600w psu, from experience i know that 500w is cripple on power sockets, doesnt even have an 8pin for the onboard, and doesnt have two 6pin pci-e, you will need those if you want a 4870.

am3 is just as dead as am2
if anythign new will come out it will only be new stepping or higher frequency;

but new generation cpus will have new socket imo

op, if u want for future upgrade get i7

op, if u want for future upgrade get i7

The socket that is going to be exclusively high end CPUs costing £500+ if current reports/rumors are to be believed?

If I was the op, and could wait till september, i5 is coming out. Even if the you want AM3 still, i5's release will shake up the market and give you more choice. It may even drop prices if AMD try to compete!

i7 is way over budget. And I need a computer before September since Im startin uni in september and movin out so I need one there.

im sure you can find £65 somewhere:

or better find £100 and change to gigabyte ud3r mobo and 6gig 1600mhz ram =)

I cant justify spending more than £750 on a PC. I dont need that much computing power. And I dont wanna go for the dead socket. So its either AM3 or i7 and i7 is not gonna fit into budget.

I know one way you could do better with £750. Give it to me :p

only my opinion of course! Think I need it now I here were all paying for Gap years because there's no jobs for post grads.

i ll repeat myself again, am3 is just as dead as am2

edit: you cannot justify? u said u wanna upgrade later on.

just under £100 difference build will last couple years more, and will save u much more on changing socket later on. Because 1366 is future socket, and am3 isn't. + It's better build overall.

but its up to u ;D

Upgrading later on doesnt count ;) And I would only do that if I actually needed to.

At this point, I cant see the reason to own a i7 for my computing needs. Hell thinking about it, jumping down to 940 will probably still suit me fine. But DDR3 is the future...So many choices.

Im jus gonna leave it till the end of August and see whats available to me.

You have not seen the AM3 road map if you think AM3 is dead as AM2.
Dead means no more CPUS than what is available right now.
That includes higher frequency's, steppings & cores, the road maps shows more of everything to come & no mention of a new socket any time soon.

Eh? :confused: AMD releasing an improved chipset for AM3 Motherboards - launches January 2010, I cant wait it means I get to play with a new Motherboard. :D

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz (Socket AM3) - being released within the next few weeks.

Also their is going to be a new stepping come out soon C1 I think it is next year, this will lower voltages & hopefully bring higher overclocks. ;)
