Hey there, I recently got asked about achieving a certain combination of video routing using multiple graphics cards. It doesn't necessarily have to be SLi, Crossfire would also be acceptable:

I would like to have monitor number one as a desktop view and numbers 2,3 and 4 represent projectors. They will be on three separate walls with the same video output stretched across all three. Is this possible with nView or Catalyst?

i know with u can stretch the output across 2 screens. so i think u can set 1 screen as your main screen then stretch the other 3, if u don't enable crossfire mode... but im not sure 100%

Crossfire/SLI won't output to that many... errr... outputs. You have to remember that that Crossfire/SLI effectively creates one graphics card.

One way of doing it is by simply using two separate graphics card not in Crossfire (i.e. two X2s).

Or - if three monitors is an acceptable compromise - use a Matrox TripleHead2Go.
 
You could go for that super doopa asus 3870X2 which has four DVI outputs. Perhaps you could buy two of them and have 8 outputs in non crossfire mode?
 
Thanks for the replies, so if I choose either a pair of nVidia or ATI cards for the job as long as they're not in SLi/Crossfire respectively then I should be able to achieve what I described? I was hoping not to spend a load of money doing this. Plus it has to fit in a rackmount case so the larger cards like 3870X2's are not suitable really.
 
I think you can now have multiple screens with crossfire, as far as I know they've enabled it within the drivers. Not sure about nvidia though :)
 
Surely a splitter only shows the same output, so 1 card with 2 splitters should give 4 outputs of the same video... and be the cheapest solution?
 
i think the best way would be using a matrox triple head to go

you would only need 1 graphics card this way as they normally have two outputs

one output would be for the desktop display, and then you would plug the th2go into the other output, then you would plug the 3 projectors into the 3 outputs of the th2go, the th2go makes your computer think that there is just one very large widescreen plugged into an output, so i cant see there being a problem spanning the video across all 3 projectors this way
