can i get a decent sound system for 500quid.

hi all.

Looking to spend around the 500quid mark. It is slightly flexable tho.

I listen to all sorts of music. So want somethin that sounds generally good for everythin.

I have 2 head units already so should be ok without that.

Any idea's?

Do you want to get door speakers, 6x9s and sub and amp package or just 1 or 2 of these?

Absolutely ZERO point in 6x9's AND a sub. Unless all you want it low-range.

Get yourself some decent amped co-axials up front, and a small sub in the rear/boot.

Two choices, bargain basement brand new or quality 2nd hand.

I went the 2nd hand route. I spent around £500 on my last system, all top of the line stuff when new (one of the amps came with the original receipt for £600 in 1999)

The best place for advice is probably TalkAudio, tell em your budget and what you're looking for in terms of sound quality or sound pressure

500 that's easy, especially if you buy of the bay,

get components, amp, sub. Remember cabling as this is adds a lot to the cost. so keep some money back for that.
If you have a lot of people in the back, it may be worth getting components for the rear as well, or just leaving what ever speakers you have in the back.

jbl 75.4amp...dont let the cheap price tag put you off...have alook on talkaudio forums and this amp is very highly regarded. puts out a modest 105watts rms per channel and 285watts rms through the sub when bridged.

I disagree - sitting in the back in my car you'll get far more bass, even if the sub is turned right down. I only have door speakers, tweeters in the pillars and sub in the boot and the balance is right.

Call me daft, but a) who wants JUST bass when listening to actual music, and b) who sits in the back of their car?

Dont do it...............!!!!!

Unless you HAVE to and dont have a sub

In mine i had to go with 7*10's and a compact sub under the seat.
They compliment each other well!

Have the treble turned up on the 6x9s, and I frequently have complaining passengers in the back sadly

got it in one!

get some comps for the front and a sub, get a 4/3/2 amp and run the fronts off channel A and bridge the sub on channel B.

do NOT get 6x9s and a sub, the air movement from the sub WILL damage the 6x9's and youll be left with 2 holes in your shelf.

ask yourself this, do you stand with your back to the band when at a gig or are your ears on backwards?

All you Mid / High should be coming fromt he front - this is your sound stage!

Bass can be in the boot as its non- directional.

6x9s are a waste of time, you don't listen to music behind you do you? All 6x9s achieve is to drag the soundstage back.

All you need is decent components (or coaxials if you can't quite stretch) up front, maybe a tiny bit of rear fill depending on personal preference, and a sub. Job done.
