I have been a loyal BT customer for 8 years, usually, if i am approaching the 100GB allowance i get sent an email saying that i have used 80GB and then i dont download rubbish for the rest of that month. They didnt send me an email this time, just an email telling me for the next 30 days i have 1mbps. Can i get BT to remove the cap, i am considering moving ISP if they dont, as last night i was getting 750kbps, 10 times less than what i pay for. I know some of you will say that 100GB is too much, but there are 4 of us, thats 25GB each, which is less than 1GB per day each. After youtube videos, iplayer, itunes and video podcasts, not to mention steam games, that isnt a lot.

Any numbers i can call?

No, there not just going to make an exception for you, if they don't have an option for it then you can't get it atm. If you want higher than 100GB I'd look towards the 50Mb service from Virgin (Don't ever go lower than 50Meg as those services have throttling which is horrific from Virgin).

BT have a Live chat feature on their website now, search on google, try it on Monday when their open.

Phone them and say your internet is really slow and you have no idea why. The person on the other end might lift the cap without checking why ;)

my friends got thier contract terminated for over usage with bt.

I would say highest tier tarrif is the only ones uncapped.

Their highest tier tariff (the 'unlimited' package) is capped at 100GB. I fail to see why they don't just say it has a 100GB cap. Unlimited attracts more people I suppose.

Sadly these threads are only going to become more common. Bt has spent the past 5 years speeding up everyone's connections but it's never increased the data use with them (20GB fttc).

Actually its 40gig on Infinity (FTTC) option 1 and 100gb on option 2.

Good god man, you went over 100GB in a month!!!

It's quite easy to do if you consider the size of game demos, iPlayer videos, other media etc. these days, along with the increasing speed of the internet.

My record is 80GB in a month on a 512K connection. Must say, it wasn't my fault .

i'd leave to be honest go with Be/02 or Virgin if you can get it

Any idea at what stage Virgin/BE will throttle/warn?

Be/O2 LLU dont have any cap - at all.

Virgin dont have a hard cap, but they have STM. Basically stops you downloading silly amounts during peak hours. I have their 20Meg and have gone through 200GB+ some months with no issues, I have heard of people going through over a terrabyte on the 50Meg.

Nice. Loving the potential upload speed they provide on their pro package :)

I'll definitely be looking into them.

This is BT's mistake so just phone them up and explain that they never sent you an email when you hit 80GB, if they refuse to lift the cap get OFCOM on their back, simples
