Can I get done by unmarked police?

If they don't have calibrated speed cameras they can pull you over but can't prosecute ( even if marked car) - no proof.
Of course if they pulled you they would say it was dangerous driving (which is worse potentially).

Of course they can still attempt to prosecute you for speeding, the officers opinion is enough for that. You either take the fixed penalty or argue it in court and local magistrates tend to believe what police officers tell them unless you can provide clear evidence you weren't speeding.

In my limited experience, officers in unmarked cars which are likely to pull you over will be wearing uniform.

Detectives won't however, and will just have their badge. Could have been the situation in this instance.

Was grabbing something from the petrol station on the way home from a night out recently, and two officers in a Hyundai of some sort had pulled a woman in a Fiesta, and were essentially shouting at her "no, you were driving like a maniac", sadly didn't stick around long enough to see if she got a ticket. Probably just a bit of late night barry-girl racing. I have a feeling they might have been a bit more heavy handed if it was a bloke...

The old myth is that a copper can't give you a ticket if he's not wearing a hat. It's up there with having to let pregnant ladies urinate in your hat. Also nonsense.

My cousin is a copper in Newcastle and reckons he'd be a rich man if he had a £5 for every drunk fat **** in the big market who had come out with that one.

Last time I got pulled over by an unmarked car it was a Granada and may it stay that way for many years to come.

Can someone please help me.

I was driving home last night where I got stuck behind a slow moving car me being annoyed by this decided to speed Uk and over take (which I know I shouldn’t of done).

Anyway I noticed the car at the back of me had done the same so I continued around two more corners onto the main road at the normal speed limit. As I got into the main road and hit traffic lights the car from the back of me pulled to the side of me.

The lady asked me to lower my window and asked me ‘Are you in a rush to get somewhere’ so I said no. She then waved a warrant card at me. She continued to ask me questions like ‘ why did speed up and over take the car’, ‘ what speed was I going’ so replied ‘I don’t know but I am sorry’ she said ‘it’s failing to drive with due care and attention if you don’t know the speed you was going at’ so I apologized again a she said ‘slow down ok there’s kids that play on that road etc’ and then drove off.

There was two in the unmarked police car both in own cloths and there was no flashing blue light it was a case of stopping me at the side on the move.

Am I likely to get a ticket & points?

I highly doubt you'll hear any more of it @Laura Henshaw.

I once had someone flash me there "warrant card" at me while passing, but it was obvious he was either off duty driving his own car or just a tool showing me a picture of his abused dog. There's some angry people out there.

Are you sure about that? I remember seeing a police program where the police, without speed cameras, followed a guy on the motorway and pulled him to do him for speeding, saying they followed him and timed him between 2 bridges which were a known distance apart, and gave him a ticket.

Edit: sorry, necro thread

Sounds more like a friendly word rather than an intention to fine you for the speed.

If someone is up your backside in the outside lane it's best to just move back in, let them past, and move back out again. Less hassle and aggro all round rather than playing the "I'm faster than you / my car is better than yours" game and refusing them to be in front.
