Can I get scammed from a FB buyer?

Yep, had a few good bargains on FB Marketplace and Gumtree recently, I'm furnishing a flat I'm going to rent out. Ikea double bed/mattress like new, £40, Fridge Freezer £40, some nice pictures £5 each.

There is nothing at all wrong with FB if you use it for what it is; cash only/local. Same as Gumtree.

Yeah. I've never had any issues (other than weeding out the time wasters), i'm generally happy to accept BT too and post, you just have to know the scams. Someone offering bank transfer and then asking for an email to send you a fake Wise transaction email being one of the main ones. I know @413x had a bad experience, but i've always found that as long as the money is in my bank it's alright. I usually ask for BT even on collection because i cba with cash.

My main issue with FB is all the scam/fake adverts. They're so obvious to spot because they use the same asking price, and when you click on the seller there's 50 of the same items for the same price with different pictures. It's the same here in Spain and makes it really difficult if you're looking for a genuine item within that price range :(

It's the time-wasters that I can't be doing with, the ones that give low-ball offers for ridiculous reasons.

Couple of years ago I was selling a dishwasher. It was 4 months old and I'd paid about £350 for it. I moved house and the new house had a brand new, more expensive one, built in.

Stuck it on FB Market for £100 for quick sale as I didn't want it hanging around. Bloke messages me "Will you take £50 because I've got to drive from Stoke (to Sheffield) so I need to pay for petrol"

Haha yeah, that's a classic. Like it's my fault you can't find something more local

Surely just say you don't take bank transfers and it'll have to be Paypal Gift only as they have your details on FB and know who you are/you have a feedback system etc, then if they're genuine they'll send it via PPG... They won't obviously cause it's a scam, but worth a shot just to wind them up :D :p
