Correct. Go to Start>Run and type "services.msc" to edit the services. Just use msconfig to edit stuff that loads on startup.

Hmm I always stop that from running. Its just for checking for updates as far as I know. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314056.

I've never had any problems with Java/my PC after disabling it.

Thats just system files that Windows is using. They are locked out hence NOD32 cannot scan them. Everyone gets that. If you boot into Safe mode and run the NOD32 scan again, you should see less of them, as Safe mode XP is using less system files, hence less are locked.

cheers again dont no *** i would do without you!!

Any chance you can crop them? The writing is a bit small. :)

In msconfig, I think you can keep the nod32kui (obviously) and JMRaidTool (do you use this though?) avgcc, MSASCui (if you need Windows Defender) and perhaps also the RivaTuner (do you need that from startup? You could just run that as and when needed perhaps?)

dont no how 2 crop them lol as for the raid option i dont even no *** it is so i can say i dont think i use it and as for river tuner i have saved a profile from there which controls my fan speeds so if i disable that will that stop that profile from loading up to?

Just open Paint or any other image prog you might have and just trim the image until only the text is there.

Keep Riva tuner then. Raid is for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID. So unless you use this, try getting rid of it. Worst comes to worse, your PC does use it; just re-enable it.

i just opened msconfig then preseed print screen pasted it in paint then i did not no *** u mean by trim the image im so sorry 4 sounding silly but these little things im no good at lol

Hehe. Thats OK. Unless your name is *Removed*, put on this Earth to annoy the heck out of me at Uni, you and I will get on OK. :D

Yep. I've just noticed that NOD32 and AVG are both in your services list? Is this AVG antivirus or the anti-spyware tool?

If its antivirus, choose between NOD32 and AVG. Correct answer is NOD32 of course. ;)

If its the anti-spyware tool, I tried that and didn't like it much. Do you have it running all the time? That was just a waste of processing power I thought. I just use Firefox, SpywareBlaster (to block naughties) and use Spybot - Search & Destroy PLUS Common Sense (TM).

I don't see the point in trying to prevent spyware by running an anti-spyware scanner fulltime.

i have avg anti virus and avg anti spyware installed they are both the free versions so the anti spyware has no real time protection as it is so should i get rid of them both? i have windows defender 2 for spyware so is that a good spyware program do u think?

sorry for wasting your time mate im sure your a busy guy and i do really appriciate your help here i mean it you really are a star!!

So you have NOD32 AND AVG antivirus? Might as well get rid of the AVG antivirus. That'll get rid of some processes.

There is another OcUKer called bledd. who runs Windows Defender, but he recommends turning the full-time scanner off. Give Spybot a go. Spybot scans your PC for spyware BUT it can also "immunise" your PC by blocking stuff so it can't get onto your PC in the first place.

SpywareBlaster is similar to the Spybot immunise. It just blocks stuff so it can't get onto your PC. This means you have some passive protection, meaning no wasted CPU cycles meaning you have :) face as no spyware and no PC running too much stuff instead of  face for spyware or bogged down PC.

Someone has been looking at my sig! :D

Not really busy atm. Watched GP. Lost my Battrick cricket match  done some shopping, mowed grass so until Mum gets back from a work party I've nothing to do....much.;)

having a well earnt rest *** i like 2 hear!! i will uninstall both avg apps then and spybot i heard is very good so i shall go for that i think.

that will give me a security setup of comodo firewall with nod32 and spybot along with windows defender and a lot less proccess hows that sound mate

That sounds much better. Getting rid of AVG AV and AS (anti-spyware) should chop off at least 5-6 processes from what I've seen.

Give SpywareBlaster a go as well. :) It runs passively, or it other words, you set it to block stuff and thats it. No running in the background at all.
