Would it be possible to OC the Q6600 to around 3.3Ghz with this bundle?

Intel Q6600 "Energy Efficient" OEM CPU
Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i Motherboard
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) Reaper 1066MHz RAM
Tuniq Tower

Thanks for any info. TiM. :)

As long as someone else has good things to say about that mobo, then yes you should easily be able to get 3.3 and maybe a bit more. Im at 3Ghz with stock cooler so you should be fine

the 780i are maent to be fairly similar to the 680i with regards to clocking, and i have 3.6ghz on my 680i, but i cant for the life of me get it stable above that, and i know this cpu can do 4ghz stable in an ip35.

You should be able to get 3.3ghz, but nothing is certain with the nvidia chipsets i'm afraid...

Everything else is spot on dude

The only reason I was choosing an nVidia board was for the SLi.. at a later date I 'might' add another 8800gtx..

Not sure what to do.. If I get an IP35 Pro board im closing the option for SLi.. But would I really need SLi? Im sure the OCd Q6600 kicks butt anyway.

I am running a 24" monitor tho, 1920 x 1200

What IP35 Pro board would you recommend?

TiM.

Also SLi seems to be not to scale as ATI crossfire is. So instead of getting an expensive Mobo for SLi, get a cheaper one for Crossfire, get a 3870, and on an Asus P5K or an IP35you would be able to clock it to that and maybe a tiny bit beyond if the cooling is good enough

680i/780i _should_ be good for upto around 380MHz FSB without major tweaking so you should get 3.3gig easy enough... generally the problem with OCing the 6 and 7 series chipsets is balancing high enough voltage against low enough temperatures on the Northbridge chip so even if the board has a "hig end" heatpipe a decent throughput 60mm fan on the NB is a must if your OCing...

The other problem with the 680i (deffinatly) and possibly the 780i but can't confirm it - if the Northbridge cooler is on too tight it will randomly lockup - even within 5 minutes if left idle in the BIOS...

Ok, so how does this setup look? Memory ok for OCing etc?

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM

Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

Asus P5K Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Or should I go for the Abit IP35 Pro.. better for OCing?

TiM
