can i insure....

gotcha lol.

so if i sorn it i can still insure it but not tax it. :)

When the vehicle is under SORN, you can choose to insure it if you want. Obviously you might want to do this, in case of theft/vandalism etc.

As soon as you tax it, then it is no longer SORN. The SORN is automatically removed, when you Tax it. But to Tax any vehicle you'd have to have valid insurance (and a valid MOT) anyway.

What if I buy a car, put it in someone elses name and don't insure it? (And it has tax)

What if my car is a classic and doesn't require tax, but is off the road, uninsured?

They still require taxing, it just costs nothing. I still have to have a tax disk, it just reads "nil" where it says the value :) Therefore the rules still apply as to any other car i.e in that case you should get fined

Well, you learn something every day! I wasn't aware you had to have a tax disc on a tax exempt car. Is this new, or has it always been like that?
