As above really, my car is 20 miles away in an undrivable condition and I want it towed home.
Are there any services which will cater for my needs? I'm aware its a **** take but considering the cost of recovery without cover I'm willing to try my luck.

Not sure about the AA, but the other half called the RAC out last month and was able to pay a call out fee (about £90 as I recall) plus the standard joining fee to sign up on the spot and get towed. Probably cheaper to ask your local Indy I'd imagine, but at least you get cover out of it.

Yes you can join the AA and call them immediatly but the membership will cost you more.

The mind boggles at the concept of running a 1990's car WITHOUT breakdown cover!

my friend had aa cover and then the day after he got the cover he broke down (flat battery) they charged him a call out fee or somthing due to him not having the cover for more than 3days i think. it wasnt a fortune, less than £100.

We've got 4 cars on a Family RAC deal through Tesco and it costs £80 in Clubcard vouchers.
In the last year I've used them 3 times, one daughter twice and the other daughter got towed all the way from Chester to Stoke.
They even took me from my drive to a garage 10.2 mile away, it should have been under 10 but they let me off.

European cover home start for £25 go with green flag on someone else policy.

Must be member of caravan club tho

This is what I did on my dads...You could add another car for 25 quid!

not had breakdown cover on the mk3 golf ever since ive owned it.

i broke part of the gear shift mech years ago, a friend was following who had rac cover, who we called out but they refused to touch my car (dispite saying it was driven by my friend)

they wanted a premium to join there and then, and a call out fee etc

so i manually selected a gear at the gearbox and drove it home

RAC is per car, AA is per driver.

They have for sometime, when I got my focus in September 2010 they both offered both.

I think you need a high level of cover to be towed more than 10 miles though.
