Hi there guys i am new to this and just have some questions. I want to overclock an i5 4670k and just want to know 1 - do i have good enough spec to overclock , 2 what are good temperatures after i overclock at idle and when i stress it out.

Spec:
z87-g45 motherboard
I5 4670k
hyper 212 evo cooler
Corsair 750W CXM Builder Modular 80+ Bronze PSU
atm got gtx 770 might be swapping soon.

Thanks for the help

you might not be able to overclock a great deal with that cooler, from my reading the haswell's run hot.

the hyper 212 seems great for the ivy's though

Yes, you can overclock. Follow one of the guides and don't exceed a voltage of 1.35 on Vcore to start with, even that's very high.

Look for temps at around 65-70 MAX when gaming, preferably under. Idle temps don't really mean much so no worries about those..

If you stress with Prime or AIDA64 you will probably see temps of 80-90 after a long time, but it does not matter if your gaming temps never exceed 70.

Your setup is fine for perhaps 4.2ghz at least, hopefully more.

Good luck!

Edit: Oh, increase the voltage conservatively to keep temps low.

Yes you can overclock fine with those parts.

The 212 Evo is probably good up to around 4.3 or 4.4ghz. But it depends on what voltage you use. Ivy bridge cpus tend to stay ok for temps up until around 1.3v where the temps rocket up to 90C and over. I believe the voltage limit is lower on haswell, so it might be 1.25v or less.

Either way you will know when you've hit this limit as your temps will shoot up to like 90C as I mentioned. As for temperatures, idle temps dont matter much unless you dont seat your cpu cooler right as they will be much higher than normal. Load temps id say stick under 80C if your looking to keep this cpu for a few years.
