Sorry for the n00b question but I've used ATi since I started with computers and neva had a problem with them so naturally I want an ATi card. Trouble is I'm buying a mobo with a nvidia chipset(no alternative for my needs). Can I put an ATi card in it? I think I heard you can aslong as you aren't using crossfire but SLi will obviously work for it. I don't intend to use crossfire/SLi cos I don't own a screen which needs it. Can anyone confirm this for me so I can start looking for a mid-highend card.

Thanks for the help :)

Aahhh thankyou for the responses. I know recently graphics have become more specific to mobos. Just worried it woulda gone a step further but alas it didn't. Think it's a x1900sumthing for me then. :D

Manoz>Up until recently I had no idea you could do this. I thought you had to use nvidia cards with nvidia chipeset motherboards and the same with ATI boards and ATI chipset boards. I am such a DUHHHHHHHHH :)

Cheers, just don't know which one to get yet. I'll decide that near enough build time. :)

LoL at GoRedWings19. I just needed to be sure. Shame mobos have to be specific when it comes to crossfire and SLi. Virtually the same aren't they?(I know linkage is different)

NO!!!!... it will explode  :D

youl be fine. :p ;)

Whats the sudden concern that single gfx cards from a company won't work with another companies mobo. Common sence people! One company isnt going to cut off a large % of the market to make people buy there gfx cards if they have their mobos.

When going dual card then yes, as the cards communicate differently. But I think hacked drivers allow Crossfire/SLi on the opposite boards  Which in theory is possible because they don't communicate through the board (much or at all?) but through the bridge.

So it will be fine.

I realise that companies don't want to cut off the other markets share of graphics compatibility but I just was unsure of the whole SLi/Crossfire thing. It's a bit like Power Supply companies labeling their PSUs "SLi Ready" when it'll work perfectly fine with a Crossfire setup. I guess it can confuse some?Maybe? ehh....and heck with AMD getting friendly with ATi, who knows?
