Can I remotely control an iPod touch from an iPhone?

Long story short, I've got an iPod touch which shows nothing but a white screen. I can still access it from iTunes however, so is it possible to control it remotely over wifi?

I wouldn't mind being able to just leave it hooked up to some speakers and use another device (iPhone?) do be able to tell it to swap songs and such...

I don't think you can with another iPhone but you could get the Apple dock with the IR remote built in and use the remote to play/pause/skip songs etc?

One use for it would be stick it in your glovebox attached to your car stereo, if the screen's kaput

You can. It's an app called PodLink

I can't remember if it needs to be running on both devices, which could be a problem if your iPod Touch is broken and only shows a white screen

Just googled it and appears it needs to be on the iPod touch already

Oo that's a cool app, could be very handy!
What I want now is the ability to share keyboards. Would be awesome to be able to use my iPad keyboard to write texts on my iPhone.

That's not a bad idea actually, I'm thinking about replacing my car radio soon and they all seem to be iPod compatible these days so I'll keep this in mind.

Getting the App on there won't be a problem as that can be done with iTunes... Running it may turn out to be a little more tricky however...

Is the touch screen still working? (I guess you wouldn't be able to tell if the screen isn't working). If it is...

Possible workaround: I think you can arrange the app icons on the home screen in iTunes. So if you put it say, 1st icon on the first home screen, I guess you could roughly know where to press to start the app.

Then using the app opened on your iPhone, you can roughly see where to press to change settings etc. (I don't think there are many settings, just which device is controlling which etc)

Well I think the touchscreen still works... it's in bits right now as I'm awaiting for a new LCD screen to arrive.

Once it's back together, I'll use iTunes to make the PodLink app one of the 4 apps at the bottom, this should make it easy enough for me to launch even with with a white screen.

I 'remote desktop'/VNC app would be ideal, but I don't think an App would have enough low-level access to allow this really, but it would be nice if the next iOs allowed remote access...
