Hello, basically, as the title says! im new to apple so dont really have a clue whats about (i have an iphone 12 , a few months old as my first and only apple kit) Im looking to buy a new, cheap ipad to use as home control, will it work without too much in the way of getting extra stuff to make it work?
I will need it to work with (all in one room, not bothered about controlling whole flat):
Phillips Bridge
Phillips Hue light bulbs
LG C1
Marantz amp (at work so i cant recall/check the model, but its brand new and recent)
BT Youview box (think made by humax?)
I currently have a harmony elite which worked with above setup (when i had it all EXCEPT i had a sony tv and onkyo amp, all other items as listed) but now i have a new amp and tv, its stopped sending commands properly, or only does so intermittently.
Given the remotes are no longer made, i thought id go through the route of an ipad. Would that work? Also, apart form the bridge and lightbulbs, all my AV equipment is wired into ehternet switches, would i have to also turn on wireless on the devices to work with an ipad, and woudl that interfere with a wired connection?

Hi, fair enough! are there any decent threads or sites to help with Harmony set up? Mine is sometimes doing different things when im pressing the same buttons and im not sure why!

The buttons on your harmony remote can/will do different things depending on the activity you're running. Check that for each activity the buttons are programmed to do what you want.

I can't do voice control with the Harmony but it controls everything else I need on my SkyQ box. I'm sure SkyQ is IR in addition to BT.

As another thought on this, if you don't mind continuing to use your Harmony Hub, set up home assistant and you can run something like I plan on doing for my cinema room.

You'll still always need SOMETHING to control everything though. There's a couple of options on the market now that Harmony is discontinuing but since I've already got 4 harmony hubs I don't see myself changing until they stop working.

thats the sort of thing on an ipad i had in mind. it may just be a case of trying to sort out the harmony correctly, but at the moment, the single button on the remote on the top left that powers everything off powers down the tv and amp, and freezes the youview box (i only watch tv through that box, not through the tv which doesnt even have an aerial connected). When i then use the macro to turn on youview, tv and amp, the remote doesnt recognise that everything shut correctly so tries turning it all off again (im watching what it says on the lcd screen); end result tv and amp are on, youview box is off. best i can do is hit the power off button on the remote, reset the power switch on youview to reset the box, then all is ready for when i next want to turn everything on.
Harmony/my equipment also seems to be a bit hit and miss on correct inputs to the amp, sometimes when i have the LG tv turned on and the amp (i watch streaming over the tv) the amp turns to tv input on earc which is what i want, sometimes it picks up cable/sat as if im watching youview box. Or, it will do the opposite, when i want the youview box the amp turns to tv audio instead. about the only thing that reliably works is amp/tv/4k player combo!
