Can I run 4 speakers off of this Amplifier?

Nah there low end AV amps are crap tbh, the class H amp they use is basically the same as the ones in there mini systems.

If you want a cheap AV amp with reasonable music sound look at the Yamaha 620/630/640.

Think I have you on my MSN, will have a look on fleabay now see if theres any decent bargains on there.

4Ohm is a "easier load?"

Yes, lower impedance loads are easier for amplifiers to drive. :)
A 32 ohm load is harder to drive for an amplifer than a 4 ohm load.

ps regarding your sig, have you ever owned any THX Ultra gear? I have, a THX is a nice feature to have (have used few of THX's options/processing)

I'm not sure if this is aimed at me.

Rergardless what you two might think, it's still not a good idea to use 4ohm speakers on budget amplifiers. When you give out bad advice I'm not going to sit here and do nothing to disagree with your expert "advice"

I added the caveat that most low end amplifers haven't got the power supplies able to deal with supplying that much power... but that at low volumes, there shouldn't be a problem.

If a power supply and other components in an amplifer is capable of suppling 2 x 100W RMS into two 8 ohm loads, the amp will produce at least 2 x 100W into two 4 ohm loads, If the rest of the components are up to it. Although sometimes you do get efficiency losses. It's important to remember that impedance is not constant across a speaker's frequency response, and an 8 ohm speaker may easily drop to 2 ohms when playing a deep bass note.

If you push the volume to the edge of what the power supply is capable of though then you're going to get problems. I'm just saying that matching impedances, whilst definitely preferable in all cases, is not a holy commandment and there is leeway.

Well I seem to have got a deal on a Technics SU-V570 PXS Cap Class AA Amplifier for £50 quid ex.
Which I think is quite good.

virtually all stereo amps are more than capable at driving 4omh nominal loads. If you'll notice, they virtually all have rms ratings at 4ohm.

Also yes, 4 ohm IS an easier load. The higher the resistance, the harder the speaker is to drive. The lower the resistance, the easier it is for the amp to produce the current needed to power that driver. wether the amp can cope with low resistance and high current draw is a different matter. but you know that, right?

How do you know the pressure levels he's liistening to? Who's jumping the gun now?) Perhaps he's using four because he wants it louder?

Why does that make any difference? besides, dont you think say....2 subwoofer will require a lot more from an amplifier than a pair of (or in this case 4) speakers at a given loudness, simpley because of the efficiancy of the drivers?

My advice would be to get a stereo integrated amplifier, only use one pair, and ditch the lower quality speakers.
not everybody cares about stereo music and *only* using two speakers. Thats something people, particularly you it seems, fail to realise.

Yes thanks. BTW my sig, is a quote in reference to THX certified pc speakers, which you'd know had you searched the quote:)

That's a AV amplifer.
Get just a budget Rotel stereo integrated amplifer, and at least have quality. Denon and Technics don't sound great imo (yes I have owned both)

and denons can be had for peanuts, and are strangely well recommend for amps that 'dont sound great imo'.

this guy wants to drive 4 speakers loud. despite what you or i would do (which you just cant comprehend) telling him instead to ditch 2 speakers and buy a rotel amp is not helping him at all.

nah they're crap too lol. I'm kidding ive got a 630. While its more than adiquate for films, its really only average for music. A decent 2 channel amp would outclass it. Having said that, ive put up with it for long enough lol

Yes very. There are many examples of speaker rated at 6ohm nominal that actually have a flatter impedance curve than speaker rated at 8ohm nominal. But that is often overlooked.

I am getting dam confused now :p

Well an Amp should be with me on Tuesday and I'll post back with results.

Thanks for your help very muchos

Not unless you're going down the home theatre route, and even then Sony AV amplifiers are poorest quality around imo. You can buy better av amplifiers.

A second hand Rotel budget integrated should cost about £50. I use a Rotel RA-920AX with B&W 601's for the PC audio setup.

Ah okey, It's just I don't have an absolute clue of what to look for lol.
Ill have a search and post back

Do you use MSN ?

Well, I picked up a Denon PMA-320 off the bay. So far I'm impressed, especially for the money.

It has made my current speakers sound a lot better. But I was thinking, what about just getting a couple of decent floorstanders?

I don't particularly want to spend too much, but I don't know how much I should be spending.

I enjoy whacking it up loud and nice controlled bass.

Any reccomendations on a pair of speakers and a price I'm looking to spend?
I'll get them second hand methinks aswell :)

Thanks

EDIT - Floor standers are expensive, so if needs be, standmounts will do me fine :)

Buying 2 good speakers will be much better than running 4 speakers. Have you tried unplugging the Goodmans speakers and just running the KEFs and positioning them properly? The Coda 3's aren't all that bad.

They are quite good and have a nice range, but I like the Panasonics more

The Kefs go down to lower tones but it seems when you turn them up higher they begin to distort.
Ill try them again on their own, but I want to get some decent speakers I can use on their own really.

Thanks
