Can I run windows 98 on a virtual machine?

I've got an old game I want to play, can I run it on a virtual copy of windows 98, and if so whats the best way to do it?

Install Microsoft VirtualPC (free), follow onscreen wizards, install Windows 98. Play.

Don't touch VPC. Use virtualbox or VMware although virtualbox is probably the better of the two for this application

pretty sure i read some people were playing it in vista32 (maybe 64), with no virtual machine.

if you do use a VM though, virtualbox is by far the fastest

Ooh great game, it did run under DOS but I think the windows version was better.

Windows on virtualbox says it's missing some .vxd files that the system.ini file refers to and then I get a screen with green and red lines running down it.

Ok, now I've got it working but it says I need 256 colours, how do I get full colour support, when there are no drivers avalible for my card in windows98?

look on the vbox website to see which hardware it emulates, it's probably an old nvidia or ati card

Win 98 in VMware is rubbish, moving th mouse laggs the whole VM

In the display settings it just says, "standard pci graphics adaptor".
