I'm currently coming to the end of my 18-month contract with o2 and the retention department wont do any decent deals (ie. less than £45 p/m) for the W995 handset that I want!

On the other hand I can get a contract through a third party supplier (Phones 4U etc) for this phone for free on a £25 p/m deal through o2!?!?!

Ideally I want to stay with o2 as I have my broadband with them and if I move then my bill goes up an extra £5!

So my question is, can I migrate from my current o2 contract to a new one through a third party supplier to get the phone and deal I want??

What happens if you tell retentions about this deal?

I hope I dont have all this hassle when my contract with o2 runs out next year, seems like they have clamped right down on good deals!

do you still get the broadband discount if you're a franchise customer not an o2 direct customer?

You can port your number to a pay as you go sim on another network, request a PAC from them, then take out a new O2 contract and port your old O2 number to the new contract.

I have no idea how this would affect you broadband discount though.

You'll have to go via Orange or something, but not exactly timely.

You can go O2-O2 iphone though, so it is possible. Maybe sweat talk them.

Absolutely nothing - they are doing zero deals on this handset! (the guy on the phone even suggested that I try the Carphone Warehouse!?!)

No idea!! I'd always assumed I would if I stuck with o2 as the provider but now you've said that I'm not so sure!! :(

Not bothered about the iphone and there was no sweet talking then at all!!! (but maybe I'll have more luck sweat talking them as you suggest - does this involve perspiring all over them till they give me a decent deal??? :D)

Seriously though, thanks for all the replies guys......

why can't you just transfer it to o2 payg? I did that on orange recently(i.e. went from contract to payg), can't see why you can't do it on o2(or any of the other networks).

I've read you can transfer o2-o2 contract numbers(and not just iphone) but not 100% on the details and what not, I've read it in threads abou people asking about if they bought a phone from mobiles.co.uk etc(that o2 don't sell) can they transfer their old o2 number onto the new contract.

i recently transferred my o2 payg number to my o2 simplicity sim, so i'm sure it's possible. they however told me, you cannot just switch numbers, you have to have 1 or the other etc..

ive just gone from o2 contract to o2 pay&go then to o2 simplicity .....all keeping the same number within in 3-4 days

(to get £100 quidco hehe) was easy

they dont allow o2 contract porting to o2 contract if you dont order direct etc

They have done in the past because a few years back o2 werent offering the phone I wanted, yet the carphone warehouse were offering the phone I wanted on o2. I got the phone I wanted, I kept my number, the same contract package and "select" customer discounts etc.

that just sounds like a simple handset upgrade

and not porting your number to a totally different contract (which would be offered to new customers only and not existing) and phone on o2

The carphone warehouse were only offering the deal to new customers, o2 were not offering the phone I wanted as an upgrade. So it was kind of a bit of both.

Heh, StevieP as in the other thread that I said about the retention deals. I just this second phoned o2 and said that I heard they arent doing any retention deals on lower end and would like my PAC code. The guy said they are still doing them, what was I after, I said i'd seen the w995 for £25 600 mins unlimited txts and was wondering if they could beat that. He said well the w995 is free on £45 p/m. I just said im not going to pay twice what I currently am (£20) so could I have my PAC code.

Off into town to have a look at Carphone Warehouse/Phones4U in a bit. Hopefully will return with the w995 and a decent contract. I will most likely go with Vodafone if possible, maybe Orange, or possibly o2 if I can keep the same number without all the switching to a Pay as you Go etc stupid Iphone has ruined it for everyone. I can imagine the recession o2 is losing a LOT of business, they may have a lot of Iphone sales but I can't see it being anywhere near all their 'lower' end contracts.

Definately don't want a 24 month contract however, they just seem to be getting longer and longer, 2 years is a long time to keep the phone.

OK.... o2 are really starting to annoy me now! I called last night to see if anything had changed on their deals and unsurprisingly nothing has!

However I also asked about whether I could migrate to o2 through a third party supplier (Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4U etc) and while the guy in the retentions department told me I could......he intimated that there were hidden costs!?!?

He basically said "if we cant do that handset at £25.00 per month, you have to wonder where the place in question are making their money!"

I've never taken a deal through a shop/off the internet before as I've always gone direct to the provider - how could the shop charge me any more than the £25 p/m advertised???

Why cant o2 just give me the phone I want for free and life would be soooo much simpler!

I got the w995 for free, 600 mins, unlimited texts, 24 month contract (not too pleased about that part but it seems to be the norm for lower end now) for £25 p/m. Got it through Carphone Warehouse, they said they would just update my contract so number stays the same.

Can I ask what your contract was before?? I was on £20 p/m before and I dont particularly mind the extra fiver for the phone I want but I do want the unlimited WAP "bolt-on" too!! (like I have now!)
Did they give you any other additional options with yours??

Cheers,

I was on 400 mins, 1000 txts for £20 p/m before. I never use the internet so didn't even ask tbh. You might be able to swing it but in all fairness, theres not much choice. Same with the amount of time on the contract. Was very reluctant to go for 24 months but otherwise it worked out about £10 more a month!
